JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

OKay...well no more people should be setting anympore...as if the eggs will be hatching in Feb!!! If trhere are people setting today, come and jooin this HAL: February H-A-L!

I don't think I am going to be posting on your hatch-a-longs as long as you are insisting that people are not allowed to post without officially joining by sending you a message. Not because it takes long to send a message but because it feels wierd and controlling and I think there are enough rules in the world that I don't really need extras, especially those serving no purpose. For me, it puts a damper on the openness and sharing that I have really enjoyed on these threads. I imagine more people would like to participate if they felt welcome.

Tried posting this as a separate thread but got no response....can anyone help me out please?

First time incubator here....

I set 7 eggs on 12/27. It looks like I have 4 viable right now.

The first time I weighed them the weight didn't decrease so I stopped putting water in....that was a week ago.

I candled and weighed today and can see weight loss but it's not consistent for all the eggs so I don't know if I should add water.

I'm using a Brinsea mini advance and don't have a hydrometer.

Here are the stats. Weights are in ounces for day1, day7 and day14
Egg1 1.8 1.7 1.7
Egg3. 2.6 2.6 2.4
Egg6 2.6 2.6 2.5
Egg7 2.6 2.4 2.1. 17%

Egg7 has lost 17% already(if I calculated it correctly). Should I add water just for that one?

Sounds like you have humidity somewhere. How's your room humidity and temp for your locale? I have a brinsea mini going with one side of the water filled. Room humidity is only 22 though. Some people put a crayon in the reservoir for reducing humidity or marbles.

I don't know why some eggs lose more than others. Did you candle the air cell at all and see if they are losing appropriately? Like the diagram in the back of the brinsea booklet...

What kind of eggs do you have in there?

Brinsea does a pretty darn good job with their incubators.

Sick and tired of killing my eggs in the styrobator in the winter. So, this is my Happy Birthday present. I just moved my eggs over except for the 7 in my mini. I bought 2 dozen from a farmer down the road to eat and they have bullseyes...so, after I weigh and candle them I will be adding.

I snuck a peek yesterday at a silkie egg and it was coming along well! I am psyched bc they were so porous. Maybe the time of year???

Prayers to Renee!

It's not a permissive thing. It's so that she doesn't have to look through all the posts here to make sure she knows who all is posting and joining along. The point is too send a message with the subject Jan/Feb HAL so she can keep up with them all. It's everyone's personal preference whether or not to do it, but slamming her methods and the way she catalogs everything isn't helping or progressing along with the nature of this thread.

Also I don't think that means you aren't allowed to post if you don't message her. I think she just wants to know who wants to be members of this hatch along. Also I think she was saying anyone who sets after today won't be hatching in January anymore so to go to the February hatch a long.

I really hope that incubator gives you a better hatch rate. Thanks so much for the prayers. I had my surgery and feel good. Now it's just a matter of waiting to get out of here. I hate staying in hospitals any more then I have to. Can't get any rest here unless you are under anesthesia.
Keep us posted on your eggs. I'm anxious to know how you do!

Congrats! That is nice. I would like to have one......someday!

A large percentage of my shipped eggs were "longs". I hope at least one or two hatch....:he

So I just candled....Day 8. The "longs" are all blue and I'm having trouble seeing anything. One definitely has something in there, not sure about the other five. All six BO eggs have veining/embryo visible! So cool! This is my 2nd attempt (my first was last year, using several collected eggs from my hens by a stray roo, none were viable). I now understand how people get addicted.....! :weee
