JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

7 muscovy eggs made it into lockdown....hopefully some hatch. found out my bator was running at 36.5c instead of 37.5c somehow. No idea when it was switched.....i saw definate movement in 3 of the muscovy eggs the other look odd but these are my first ducks. So far the hatch rate has been horrid. 1 of 6......1 of 4 stupid low temps!!

imho incubating isnt exact. My auto turner was unplugged for about 10 days and I still had a pretty fair hatch. I dont think 1 or 2 less days without turning will make a huge difference in your results.

I don't know about the humidity thing but I know that a couple of days without turning them shouldn't be a issue. My hatch at the first part of Jan went 4/4 hatching and my turner was not working for 13 days without my knowledge. But I'm no expert, maybe someone with more knowledge will post

I have a couple hours early before, but never a couple days. Not sure how that would work out. If you decide to, be sure to post your findings at the end of the hatch.

Tell them that you are expecting and can't possibly go away! Lol

thanks for your advice or experiences! I won't know for sure if/when I'm leaving. A lot of factors are in play here. Purpletie3 I wish it was that simple but when I wrote that msg I had got word my grandma really wasn't looking good today and shortly after my dad called to say she passed away. Unfortunately due to the stupid kidney stone last week I have to get the stent removed on Tuesday. No idea when grandmas funeral will be but this stent may be stopping me from going.
Anyway, the eggs are kinda keeping my mind off focusing on all the bad this week has brought. I'll let you all know when I have plans and how the hatch ends up. If it all works the way I hope I'll get the stent removed tuesday put my eggs in lockdown Wednesday then fly out for the funeral and come back to some fuzzy butts. But that's in a perfect world and it seems luck is not on my side lately. RIP grandma!

Question... I may have to go out of town next week! Aghhhh! Lockdown is supposed to start Thursday morning. I'm not sure exactly what day I'll leave if I have to but trying to figure out my game plan... would it be horrible if I started lockdown a day or 2 early?


cant say I have done it, but I have read a couple accounts of people that lost track of days, and they chicks hatched in the egg turner.. probably not ideal, but Im sure they would probably make it.
