JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

could be resting. I hatched out 6 chicks they laid there along time and I thought all was lost, them before long they were all running around.

Is it normal foe the chick to still be partly in the egg like 2 hours after it hatches? I've only had the one hatch last time and she popped right out and was flopping all around. I assumed that's what they all did but this one is not really making its way out of the shell and just laying there with its eyes closed.
It's probably just resting, zipping takes a lot of their energy and sometimes they may have a small amount of yoke to absorb yet. They seem to know what they need. Thankfully you don't have a bunch of other Littles one stumbling around yet, especially if it has yoke to absorb yet. Hope Bawk, Bawk is ok :)

Thanks guys. I was just concerned it was stuck in the egg... it doesn't look very wet and the humidity didn't really rise after it hatched. It's moved a bit more now and I can tell better what's going on in the egg, it doesn't appear to have any yolk to absorb so I think maybe it's just too tired to even care to get out of the egg. So far no more have hatched, it looks like 2 are working on zips though! I'm so excited to be hatching more than 1 this time! :)

2015 hatch #4 due tomorrow. I have my first-ever early pip!! :clap

Yay!

Finally getting around to posting pictures of the chicks from my hatch. Sorry guys, I've been super busy (and I'm on vacation from work)! These were the best I could do, they weren't impressed with my camera. I ended up with 2 Silkie/Sizzles and 4 EEs (I had 5, one didn't make it). Both of my Silkie eggs were fathered by my Sizzle rooster or hens. One chick is a Sizzle (frizzled normal feathers) and the other is a frizzled Silkie (frizzle Silkie feathers). Only the Sizzle would stay still for a picture, along with a cute little red and strawberry blonde EEs. This little grey EE was very photogenic. That little grey chick again, with the strawberry blonde, red chick in back and blurry and the chick to the far left are all of the EEs. The chick that looks black is actually a wonderful chocolate brown color, which you can sort of see in the photo above behind the grey chick. What most of the pictures I took looked like :p
none of our ee's looked like those gray ones, interested to see how they feather our. The minky looking chocolate brown ones we have had look to have partridge feathering. Probably from our partridge Plymouth rock girls. Your silkies are soooooooo cute

It was a bit of a mad house in the bator, so I pulled out the ones that have hatched, 10, and will wait on the others. I still have 6 cream legbars and 7 Marans in. 3 of the CL have pipped, and are very much alive in there.... just need to give them time I hope. In the pic are 3 Alsteirers, one Splash Marans and 6 Black Copper Marans.

Renee....how is your hatch doing?
it's been busy over here Purpletie3! I've had 3 hatch, have 1 zipping, and I have I think 7 pipped. I saw 1 egg really shaking but so far no pip on it. That leaves 10 eggs that are quiet but I am so not worried since today is only day 19!

My first one that hatched is finally completely out of its egg and trying to stand and walk around. It appears to have quite the comb already so I suspect it's a roo but that's ok! I was scared to try again this 2nd time since my first hatch was horrible and with all that happened during this hatch I was pretty concerned it wasn't gonna work out but I am pleasantly surprised and ADDICTED to hatching. This is so much fun! :)
