It was a bit of a mad house in the bator, so I pulled out the ones that have hatched, 10, and will wait on the others. I still have 6 cream legbars and 7 Marans in. 3 of the CL have pipped, and are very much alive in there.... just need to give them time I hope. In the pic are 3 Alsteirers, one Splash Marans and 6 Black Copper Marans.

Super cute chickies! Question: do you always hatch in cartons? Pros and cons (other than the obvious, air cell up)? And, do you cut a hole in the bottom of each cell of the carton?

ya, I think hubby is even enjoying it... he went and checked out the incubator and was like "did 3 hatch?" I said no only 2 so far. He looks again and he's like nope there's 3 in here, that's so cool!

Yes, love hatching in cartons.

Pros:
Keeps the eggs in place for an easy egg count. Makes pips easy to see. Good for shipped eggs with wonky air cells. Easy to clean up. Can position in incubator to create a hatchling playground where the unhatched ones don't get kicked around.

I do cut holes in the bottom of the cartons AND cut the sides down to allow as much air circulation as possible.


Cons:
Means you have to buy eggs at the store to get the cartons.
