January 2021 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
I had such high hopes with this hatch. But, they went through a full day of 93F temp, and that probably killed them, even though they were alive after I got it back up. All made it to the internal pip stage and then died except the 2 that hatched. I still have quail due tomorrow but idk if any will hatch.

Refresh my memory so I don't have to wade through December hatch-a-long. on what day were the eggs when they suffered 93 degree temps. and how many hours.

Something seems off at first read.

I cant remember the exact day. It’s somewhere in my hatching thread. It happened when the temp gauge was messed with somehow, and it was probably all day until I noticed it that evening.

and so it begins

My fingers have been busy at the keyboard. I just placed an order for a dozen each BC or BBS Marans and Olive egger F1-F2. I also got on a wait list for another dozen assorted hatching eggs of various breeds/egg color. These will likely be part of the February HAL but I'm just too excited to not share.

As for the current hatch nothing new to report. I did candle this evening. The brown eggs are little rock stars. All look great. The Trader Joe eggs still look to be developing albeit slowly. Only time will tell what's going to happen with those ones.

Found it. went back through your posts and found where you said it went off during lockdown. So day 18 or 19 more than likely. While chicks that are hatching can and do generate their own body heat, if your temps lowered for 8-12 hours that would would be a reasonable explanation for internal pips but failure to hatch.

I am attaching a pdf of a hatching record that I use. It allows you to record temp and humidity 3 times a day and to record weight if you so wish and or candling results. I candle on day 10 and day 18 only. I also can candle 48 eggs in under 2 minutes. To do so I bring the candler flashlight to the eggs and never take them out of the turner, I do not touch the eggs except to remove ones that are to be discarded until it is time to take them out of the turner.

Anyway, back to using the hatching record. Unless you keep records that you can look at, at a moments notice, how can you fix a problem and be consistent and be able to increase hatches. It might be my advancing years, but I can't remember the parameters or much of anything about last december's hatching. And as I make notes about hatching like if ambient humidity is higher than normal, without which it makes it harder than necessary to zero in on each current hatches needs.

I'm finally getting around to downloading your pdf. Looks great! Thank you for sharing. Under "shell" do you put color, porous, bloom and such? Looks pretty self explanatory but I'd like to know what you put in that section.

Yes, that is where I note porous, thin shelled, cracked, dirty and such. The condition of the shell.
