They pluck their chest so eggs can get the heat. even though I only gave her eggs this morning, she had her chest ready for a while.

Hi everyone (and thanks for the invite gimmie birdies x). I set 15 CCL eggs in my R Com 20 max yesterday morning so I am on day 1 with hatch due on 27th January. This is my first hatch in 3 years and after an almost two year break in owning any chickens at all (due to house and job move). I am also buying some POL Orps, Cochins and Brahmas, which should be with me in the next couple of weeks. I am sooooo excited to be getting back into chook keeping and so glad to be back here on BYC.

Here's wishing everyone a happy hatch xxx :love:jumpy

Lol! Here they are, 14 perfect, beautiful little blue eggs and one with more of a green tint to it.....

Also at the end of day three I did my first candling of a silkie egg. I know it’s best to leave them alone but I just decided let’s do one and see how it’s foing and we’ll... it’s ALIVE!!! So now I feel better and I know I can wait till day 7-10 to candle the rest. I was extremely careful as well. I can’t believe there are little spider veins forming! I love it! I made it black and white to maybe help be able to see it.

That's wonderful news! I love candling. It's difficult for me to keep my hands off them.

Something else you can notice on your photos, that tells fertility, is the clear delineation of and change to the yolk. They only change like this, becoming pancake like, when it's fertile. Early on it's much easier to look for this on dark eggs than veins.
