I can understand how stressful it is... but from what i hear try at best to avoid opening the incubator because of shrink wrapping. The chicks in my opinion that are on day 16 are to big to get attached to the shell so you should be fine. Just try to stay calm as much as possible. You staying calm is good for you and your chicks. Making rash decisions like that can have bad consequences. My advice is to watch that chick now for shrink wrapping and to watch the humidity. Try to just stay calm.

thanks so much ive heard of shrink wrapping but dont really know how the chicks do that is it the humidity my humidity is at 43 right know and my temp is at 100.7 i did add water but i habe one vent plug open

The membrane will dry onto the chick and make it unable to hatch and ultimately will kill the chick. The high humidity will make the membrane loose and wet so it prevents it. Try to maybe get it up some.

It can take a long time. Just think of the pip as the start. It opened the air sack took a breath of air and the cracked the egg to allow more oxygen to breath. Just think this chick just did a lot of work you can’t see. It’s gonna wanna take a break and gain strength then it will zip around creating that hole. Then it will most likely take another break. After that it should hatch. If it has piped for over 24 hours and nothing else then it’s time to maybe help.
