January Hatch-a-long 2018

I just set up my brooder! Does anyone have any cool brooder they’d wanna share?

this is my permanent brooder it is made from a glass display case layed on its side, it's roughly 18 inches tall and maybe 3 foot square?
I use one heat bulb that sit's on the hardware cloth top and when the chicks are small I set up a 'loose' interpretation of the mhp that consist of a metal frame to hold my heating pad in a 'cave'. Because it lives in an unheated room I cover up some of the top with towls in the cold months to help maintain heat.

here you can see some of my christmas babies enjoying a ga me of toss the shavings around and slime the viewing glass..... sigh one of their favorite games.

because i am not ready for the Christmas babies to go outside yet I set up a 'temporary' nursery for the new hatch, still in a cool room so I have a heating lamp and the broody cave both going. ... this one has no top right now.

here you can see the temp is holding at 95deg

here I lifted the heating pad to look at the babies underneath

I have my brooder box on a cute wagon, I don't have the food and water set up yet, and some of my hand made beds, and I have covers too.

The lamp doesn't touch anything, don't worry.

Oh no guys!!!!! I've just got home from church, packing my camera bag (I'm a photographer) for a shoot and checking on my chicks and FREEEEEAAAAKING out!!!!! I candled yesterday (lockdown day) and had 2 more quitters, so I'm down to 5 BCM, 5 2nd Gen OE, 3 1st Gen OE and 1 brown who-knows-what!!!

Day 19 today so I don't want to open my Bator but even with water added I'm not over 40% humidity .... anyone had a successful hatch at 40% humidity???? Temps stable. I don't want to shrink wrap the babies by opening that bator - don't know if I should syringe water down the vent hole or just hang tight and put it down to experience!!!! Oh Lordy am I second guessing EV-RY-THINGGGGGG!!!!! :hit:oops::he:fl:th
I just pour some water down a hole. I watch the humidity from then on, because it will dissipate , I just keep adding during the day if needed, I myself keep my humidity in the high 50's. Low 60's.
