Oh No, I am so sorry to hear that. Bummer. I just read a project someone did comparing washed eggs to unwashed and there was some difference in hatch rate but nothing like this. If they had blood rings you know they were fertile. Gosh I am just so sorry.

I am so sorry! All 3 of mine are developing on day 14 so it looks good for hatching and I snuck out some that are on day 3 and took a quick peak and I think I saw veins but we will see later on probably day 7 or 8.

My day 7 candling is on Wednesday, although I do like doing day 10 instead. 4 of these eggs looked a little scrambled at the air cell, so will see it the cell settled down then. Unless there are any smelly eggs, I won't toss or open any now; better to just wait till day 14 or so. My candle skills are improving with practice, still I'm learning more & more as I go. Good luck to all.

The Warden: Can you post the picture/s of the wax egg repair again from December, it was great & I'll always remember to try it if needed. What a lovely chick Humpty is.

My day 7 candling is tomorrow. VERY nervous!

Okay, I couldn't stand it - I candled again this morning and pulled all the clears. I must actually be learning to understand what I'm looking at when candling as all of those I had marked as clear last week were actually unfertile/non developing when I cracked them open (thankfully as it would have been a bummer to open up a half developed chick). So I am left with 7 Silkies, 4 EE/Faverolles and 3 Salmon Faverolles. So far, all look to be developing as far as I can tell. I actually put the eggs in the incubator on Dec 29, after noon, so doesn't that make today day 13? or do I count Dec. 29th as day 1?

I'm not quite sure whether lockdown is Friday or Saturday for me . . .?

According to the farmers almanac you set your eggs, during the right phase of the moon!!!! Good luck I'm interested if setting them using this method actually works.

ok I candled this morning out of the 8 eggs it looks like 3 are early quiters and 5 are developing nicely. not to bad for shipped eggs this time of year.

With all this talk about candling, I have a question. This is my first time trying to hatch anything so forgive it is sounds silly. How do you handle the eggs during candling? I have a Brinsea eco 20 so is it right to just pick up the whole egg tray and sit it outside the incubator while I candle? I figured that way the incubator will get back up to temp quicker when I replace them but I don't want them to get to cold sitting out. Would love to hear what you guys do! Thursday is day 7 for me but maybe I'll wait until Sunday to look at them.
