I have been making myself wait at least an hour between looking, and lo and behold! Will wonders never cease! A black silkie is zipping [I have 2 in], and the Dk Brown Leghorn [only 1] is pipping!! W-e-e-e-e're OFF!!!

Gotta go watch! And make a pot of coffee!

Going to lockdown today! I had to toss 5 if my BLR eggs 3 clear , 1bloodring, 1 early death. But I still have 10 and one of my own Cm. I can't wait till they start to pep!

I thought the first week was bad- being first timer. Boy was I wrong its the last 3 days.

Any pointers anyone can give me? I keep hearing about stagered hatches in the same bator. How does that work on the last three days? With out the high humidty and all?

Best I can tell, when they do a stagered hatch, most remove their day 18 eggs from their bator and put them in a separate "hatcher-bator" so that temp and RH can be controlled during lockdown. Some just take the day 18 eggs out of the turner and put them in the bottom of the bator, closer to water source and the whole bator is on lockdown until the hatch is completed and chicks removed to the brooder. I don't think I am ready for that!

Here's the first part of this long 3 week hatch ... 14 Silkies and 2 mutts. You can tell the mutts by the yellow beak and feet. One was from a green egg, the other tan. The Silkies are all housed together for the winter ... buff, white, blue, and splash. This is what hatched. They are for a girl I work with ... done, just for fun!

Next part of the hatch is due ... Jan 28 ... Thursday.

well the 104F spike, didn't get them all. I was checking the temp/humidity and I heard a very quiet Peep/chirp....I looked for pips, but I didn't see any little holes....but when you lean close to the window you can hear it! tap cheep.....
