Upside down pic, but wr have two babies!! The black one is Oogity Boogity (his egg was named Booger Brain). The second one we haven't named yet. His egg was Gray Hair. He is a pain!! He whines, he falls over, he fights with his brother, he hatched when I wasn't looking... Even his brother is fed up. I'm not sure if babies normally fight a little bit, but mine do. (Mostly in a "GO AWAY I'm sleeping!" Way, not trying to kill)
Expecting the third today.

Open to ideas for Mr sparky cranky baby. He was Angry Baby with the light. Now he is Whiny Baby. (Ah, young brothers)

That's what I'm afraid of!


Quick question, do they set up a pecking order that young? Oogity isn't being very nice to Bumble Bee. Bee seems okay with it. Oogity is MUCH more 'in charge' about things. He's not as snuggly, either. Bee comes running up to my hand clicking like a cricket.

Also, are they going to change color when they get older? They're both very cute. One has leg feathers. I hope they stay and get bigger.

Well, some can be bullies or extremely meek from birth, that is not always indicative of their later behavior in my experience. Many breeds are different colors/patterns at hatch vs adult. So really hard to say. What are they?

What are they?

They're a bardyard mix off Ebay. The only thing I have to go off of is that Boogity has feathers on his legs, came from a dark brown speckled egg, and makes more of a cricket chirping noise (that kind of purring sound?) than a scream. he rarely chirps, preferring to sing like a cricket. He's also calmer than Bee, and up until now has been the one in charge and attacking Bee.
Boogity also likes My Chemical Romance music. I was playing when he decided to make his grand entry into the world. We have a alternative rock baby!

Bumble Bee screams. A lot. Loudly. She's more diva than anything. She insists on snuggling. She has no leg feathers, and came from a light brown egg with speckles. I asked if she could mostly send Polish, Silkie, the black ones (It has an A and Y in the name?) and the long tailed kinds, though. And now she's shoving Boogity out of the way so SHE is the center of attention. How can something that hatched less than eight hours ago be such a snot?

We have Baby 3 internally pipping! He doesn't want to hatch at all. It's day 23, so he's not too slow. I'm wondering if it may be better to put the two back from the brooder to convince him to pop out or not.

When did everyone do lockdown? In the morning of the 18th day or at night on the 18th day? Does it make a difference to if you set yours at night or in the mornings?

IMO there isn't a hard and fast rule. A setting hen doesn't lock down.
The idea behind lockdown at 18 days is to have enough humidity to prevent shrink wrap in case they hatch early.
I really don't pay much attention to it. I try to have humidity raised before they start pipping.
Morning, night, day 16, day 18, day 20, doesn't really matter.
The first two weeks is the critical time for turning. After that, not so much.

Well, if you know what breeds the seller had that may help determining what your little ones are. Mixes are always fun. The eggs from my own are a mix but I know what they are.

When should I worry abut Baby 3 not pipping? He did an internal pip earlier, won't do an external pip. I know he's alive in there.

I'm not really sure what the appropriate answer would be on the time. I have heard some hatch as late as day 25 but haven't experienced it myself.
That's a long list of possible combinations of chicks. I.D. may be harder than initially thought.

Update: As of a few hours ago we have three more going pip to zip. Two Biels and one of my own. Finally. Uno is getting lonely.
