January Hatch Buddies?

Yeah. Those are my current hatch dates.I have 2 bators now,but haven't cleaned and started the other one up yet..(I haven't been feelin to hot so I have LBS,lazy butt syndrome)Waiting on my watering system to come in.The room I keep the bators in is very warm to start with.I make sure I move as quickly as possible and only go in to either move down(for hatching) or to add eggs or pull chicks. But I hold eggs for 10 days before setting into the bator. All my eggs are set in hatching trays,so I am not laying individual eggs in .I have the eggs ready on the tray and then just lay it in.Then take my spray bottle and give everyone a light spray which kicks the humidity back up.Not saying this is for everyone, but it has been doing fine for me.All the poultry peeps around here pretty much do it all the same way. From us with the quail and chicks to friends with ducks, geese, turkeys.

do you spray AS you're removing babies? or do you get the babies out, put them in the brooder, and THEN come back and spray?

I spray AFTER I've removed the babies.Usually I have a lil box that I set them in as I pull out. Then I spray a mist over the eggs. This especially helps with he big bators as they don't warm back up or humidify as quickly as my lil Reptipro that I got spoiled with.

Wish I knew someone around home I could talk to about chickens. I am all alone here in this.

I ended up actually putting mine in on the 23rd so we have the same hatch date exactly

I don't have anyone around here that has chickens either. My great grandma used to years ago and she thinks it is great that I'm doing this with my sons. Other than her... I just get on here as often as possible to learn as much as I can. I'm really hoping for a good hatch this time. I tried to candle the eggs but couldn't see a thing. I have a good wattage flashlight, and even tried an LED light, but no luck. I think the shells may be too thick or something. I could definately feel a difference in weight in some of them though. So far none are seeping, so I think I will wait until lockdown to try and weed out any bad eggs. Hopefully I can catch them before they blow up if there are any. I've read way too many scary posts about that. Have you candled your eggs yet?

I have tried candling but was unable to see a thing in there, The white shelled eggs in there that I did try and candle are moving around in there so I am going to just leave them all in there and wait.
