January Hatch Buddies?

i'm not experienced enough to be able to help with your questions about fertility....but about your egg colors....i'm happy that you got some blues though! yes, it seems that they're EE. i love the EE chicken....but i wanted some blue eggs. i ordered some "true ameraucana" eggs and got lt green! oh well....i've got 3 more EE girls coming in march....maybe i'll get lucky!
i will say one thing about the fertility though.....told to me by one of the people i bought eggs from....she said they can last 2 weeks and still be able to hatch. now how true that is...i don't know...but that's what i was told.

Thanks for the encouragement.. my first attempt at hatching ended awefully with all three that hatched dying within 4 days. I'm trying again, with better equipment and more advice under my belt. I've spent so much on hatching eggs that if it doesn't work this time I may just save up and order some chicks. My sons couldn't take the disappointment again I don't think. My two year old still looks for them to tell them good night some times.

Yes this is what I have heard too! I have heard after 10 days the fertility drops dramatically. They are supposed to be kept at 60 degrees and turned at least daily.

PS My silver laced polish pullet just laid her first egg today. Usually pullet eggs are not viable for a few weeks, but I will pop it in the bator anyway.

Is there a certain time of day to put eggs in the bator? Im hoping to put them in sometime today, after i work out one little temp issue. I was reading how one lady puts hers in at midnight. Im just curious why...

I think what people are trying to do when they set eggs at a certain time is this; techinically if you have just the right temp in your bator they should hatch at that time on day 21. So maybe that lady wanted chicks when she got up in the am?
