January Hatch Buddies?

I'll join, why not? I've got 21 mixed eggies going into lockdown on wednesday so we should be hatchin on new years day-ish. Clean legged CM roo over: SLW, RIR, EE, SS, CM, BR and a mix EE/leghorn from last spring. All hatchery birds... nothing special. But the best is they'll all be different mongrels

Swapping out some older girls in my layer flock.

Heres my bators:

I have the following set to hatch in January:

1/5/2011: This is day 21 for 15 Turken's and 9 Silkie Bantams
1/9/2011: Day 21 for 14 Buff Orpington, 14 Australorps, 8 Barred Rocks, and 12 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes
1/11/2011: Day 21 for 12 high quality Blue Laced Red Wyandottes

Also, i have a mamma with 7 chicks right now,

If you guys need an idea how to add water without lifting off the top of your incubator, i made this thread..

Yes, they are packed to the brim!! I candled the first 24 yesterday, and 23 out of 24 are on their way!! The only infertile egg thus far is the slot right under the air vent i use to fill the water!! It was strategically placed!! I have a long way to go, and have a brand new hovabator (thank u santa) that i will be using for lockdown.. I cant wait to see all the fuzzy butts!!

Also, Mountainwhisper: It is like heaven.. I suck at hatching and my momma is SO GOOD AT IT.. She hatched 7 out of 8 (shipped eggs), and i hatched 0 out of 24 (hatched eggs).. Im very glad she is better than me. I have made several adjustments however, i purchased circulating fans for the top, and a better thermometer/hygrometer combo (My last thermometer was 7 degrees off, and caused me to lose all my eggs.) I also figured out a great method of adding water without opening the bators. Its making everything SO much more stable.

I am expecting many fuzzy butts in the new year, plus i will be ordering about 30 day old chicks from Pauls Poultry in January as well.. Gonna ge a GREAT year!!​

I have a question.. I want to candle the minimum amount possible.. so should I candle on day 10 and 18, or day 14 and 18? or day 14 only? I don't know... want to give my eggs the least amount of temp and humidity fluctuations though. I wouldn't candle at all if I wasn't afraid one would become an egg "bomb". What days do you do your candling?

I had a few quail start hatching today and expect more between now and tomorrow.Then I have some Silkies Showgirls and Old English due Friday.I have the same setting due each week this month so far. So far I've gotten 18 Old English/5 Silkies/3 showgirls and 13 quail from this past weeks' hatch and about 12 Old English/2 Silkies/2 Showgirls out of the week befores' hatch.
