Best of luck, trunkman! Here are the ones that are going in the bator, BBS Orps on top and Delawares on bottom.

Thanks speckledhen, I see your starting with 17, I started with 16, now down to nine. 5 weren't fertile and two had small embryos about the size of a dime when I candled them last night before lockdown, so I think my hatch will be pretty good. This is my first and I'm finding it pretty exciting..

Just candled my eggs. Guess what??????? In some I can see them growing and in a few I saw them moving. Just little ones wiggling around. Oh this is so exciting. 2 more weeks. Oh how Oh how will I wait this out? I am so excited I can not wait. This is so awesome:weee

Hey yall.... Well I started with 20 variety eggs candled all of them and now im down to 10. The 10 duds wasnt fertile the other 10 moving. I have 1 quick question..... my humidity has been 55-65% since I started (its day 8 for me) is it too high?? I have a small pill bottle that has water in it and its half filled. My temps are 97.8 - 101.2 and its in a homemade cooler bator.

I never get tired of seeing those little ones dance in the egg. I won't candle till probably Day 8 or so with these.

Humidity should be no higher than 50% for the first 18 days. I keep mine between 35-45%, then up it to 65-70%. Did you calibrate the hygro before incubating, epitman2?

I didnt I was in a hurry and needed 1 fast so I go to walmart and get that small white $6.50 one snd I was reading the instructions it said that there may be a 5% difference . How do you calibrate one ???

Put the hygrometer in a ziplock bag with a cup with a pile of salt, wet with water--don't get the hygro wet! It should be just like wet sand, but if you need amounts, 1/2 c salt to 1/4 c. water, though you dont have to use that much salt. Keep it sealed for 8-12 hours then read. It should say 75%. If it says 70%, then you know it reads 5% too low; 70% actually means 75%, in other words. You just adjust your reading by what it was calibrated at.

I'm recalibrating an old one right now. They should be recalibrated before each hatch, ideally.

ok Thank you for the info I didnt know that so that being said mine could be 50% on the low and 70% or more on the high end. If I open the vent more the temp decreases down around 94-96 so Im thinking of leaving it alone for now

I can't believe I haven't seen this thread until now, I have 13 OE'ers in the bator right now, due to lockdown tomorrow. They are all from my own stock, so it will be so fun to see what hatches. I candled them all last night and they all have great looking air cells and I could see slight movements in most, so I think crossing my fingers for a 100% hatch!
