January Hatch Buddies?

I am still waiting on all 12 eggs. I see 2 have pipped. 1 is pipping pretty good. The other has not gotten any bigger scince this morning. But it is still moving around chirping and trying. Sitting on my hands. Cleaning house and trying to be patient.

One died just shortly out of coming out of the egg. One never hatched. It looked like a very late quitter.

One piped and zipped, but couldn't get the top of the shell off. I left it in there until all the others had hatched (2 days).

When I when to clean up, I was opening it and the other non-hatcher to see what was inside.

As some of the shell came off it started to peep. Of course after two days zipped, everything was stuck together like glue.

So I took a warm wash cloth and some wet q-tips and worked on getting the stuck shell and goo off. It's eyes were even glued open.

Once I unstuck the wing and legs, it really started fighting. After about 20 minutes, I put it back in the bator to warm up and dry.

I was sure it would die, but wasn't gonna kill it.

This morning it was running around with the others. Just a few places that didn't fluff due to excess goo. It still had it's toes curled up a bit, so I made the little boots I saw on here.

It seems to be doing great. All in all a great hatch for my first time. The next batch goes into lock down tonight. 28 out of 41.

Here are some pics of the first group.

This eggs was one of the first to pip and zip, but never hatched.

It is a Hovabator Genesis 1588. I got 60 shipped eggs and added 23 of my own.

At day 9 only half own eggs were even fertile. Not too surprising since I have 47 hens and only 1 roo. My eggs are all Light Sussex Roo with a variety of hens (ergo..mutts).

My shipped eggs had 38 out of 60 growing. Only 2 had embryos at all when I cracked the duds.

I only lost one more prior to lock down.

So I started with 83 all together. 54 have made it to lock down.

24 have hatched and survived. 28 are still in lockdown, due Monday.

My temps were great at 99-100. Humidity ran 45-50% until day 18, then 70-75%.

Most of my eggs hatched on day 20. The last one hatched on day 22.

Some took over 24 hours from pip to hatch others took an hour for the whole thing.

It has been amazing.
