First incubator is done. I started with 42. I went into lock down with 26. 24 out of 26 hatched!!!!!!
One died just shortly out of coming out of the egg. One never hatched. It looked like a very late quitter.
One piped and zipped, but couldn't get the top of the shell off. I left it in there until all the others had hatched (2 days).
When I when to clean up, I was opening it and the other non-hatcher to see what was inside.
As some of the shell came off it started to peep. Of course after two days zipped, everything was stuck together like glue.
So I took a warm wash cloth and some wet q-tips and worked on getting the stuck shell and goo off. It's eyes were even glued open.
Once I unstuck the wing and legs, it really started fighting. After about 20 minutes, I put it back in the bator to warm up and dry.
I was sure it would die, but wasn't gonna kill it.
This morning it was running around with the others. Just a few places that didn't fluff due to excess goo. It still had it's toes curled up a bit, so I made the little boots I saw on here.
It seems to be doing great. All in all a great hatch for my first time. The next batch goes into lock down tonight. 28 out of 41.
Here are some pics of the first group.
This eggs was one of the first to pip and zip, but never hatched.
Me working on it.
Here it is today, boots and all. It's a BBS Ameracauna.
