January Hatch Buddies?

They kind of look like quail from the top with their stripes. These are all project crosses with Barnevelders. "Blue laced' and some with a dash of dark cornish blood. It's hard to tell who's blue, but if I look close I can see differences. Since the "Blues" were from a Black laced Barnevelder roo x a Blue-laced hen the odds are 50% blue, 50% black. But, it's really hard to tell until they start getting their wing feathers.

I'm pretty sure these two will be blue. Boy on the left, Girl on the right. They have little grey chins

Yes, they are colored zipties. They are a pain to put on the really little ones all by yourself, but if you have someone to help it's pretty easy. You MUST check to make sure none of the bands are too tight just about every day. I simply remove them by using nail clippers and put a new one on as the chicks get bigger. I get the zipties from Homedepot, hardware store or even TSC had some last time. They come mixed colors and sizes all together in one container. I usually reband several times and the zipties are cheap. Colors help me keep track of all the lines for example: Cull birds= red, pure= green, cornish= yellow and blues= blue. I can add other colors if I want to keep track of a particular bird. The adults that I keep long enough to use for breeding get numbered leg bands.

I saw them at the Dollar tree once and bought them. Don't do it . . . .they are almost impossible to zip and don't stay. They are JUNK!

Get the ones from home depot. I got a container of 500 - - assorted colors and sizes - - of assorted cable ties (zip ties). Now, I am coming up with a 100 reasons to use a zip tie. They are better than super glue!
