JANUARY ...OUR FIRST HATCHING OF 2013 ANYONE? come join!!

Yes it will.
I have some 13 week old tomorrow, 4 week olds tomorrow.
The next I'm setting is Jan 3 to be 9 weeks behind the last ones.
Hopefully the oldest will be big wnough to sell in about February.
Oh you are a hatcher for sure!! Yeah i have LOS about to lay .. and 3 kinds of brahmas same thing...close to laying...5 week old Palomino Brahmas in my bathroom, AND 3 week old Lavender EE in there too ! ..
then .Eggs on day 11 due Dec 29th and eggs coming today!!! the 2013 ones.
Well our winter doldrums should go by fast and i am praying for a warm winter like last year!!!

I built my first one back in July and it worked so well that I built another for a hatcher. I ended up getting a Sportsman and using the coolerbators exclusively for hatching. I watched this guys videos on Youtube and modeled mine after them. I have to say that they keep temp and humidity almost perfectly and I never had to worry about the dramatic swings I see other people having with the Hovabators and LG's.
I am gettin great results from mine as far as holding temp and if this all goes well I am going to build a second for a hatcher

Me too I need that nice winter but a goood solid freeze would help kill off all bacterias and pests so we could start fresh next year

You have a point.

I have 6 eggs i collected from at my moms house :) hoping their hatch goes well. I put them in day before yesterday. Haven't even started turning them yet. I have had some bad hatches so i'm trying something a bit different. Where I don't turn them for the first 5 days then start the egg turner. that way the babies inside get nice and attached before they begin getting turned :)

Good luck

I do this also with shipped eggs. I let them rest for 12 hours to get to room temp. and then set them in the incubator and do not turn for 7 days. I had tried 5 days but still lost too many. By waiting the 2 extra days you are giving them a much better survival chance because by then all of the major organs are formed and it really gives the air cell a chance to reattach if separated. When I hatch local eggs they go right into the bator and are turned from Day 1. Local eggs have not gone through the "soccer game" that shipped eggs go through when they are handled by the post office.

my last two were shipped eggs. well one of those two sets of eggs is under a broody and i have no idea how well or bad it's doing. hoping to get at least one chick out of that so my broody will have a baby to care for.
If not and she stays broody til these hatch I'll tuck newly hatched babies under her. While these weren't shipped I still am giving them every possible boost that i can cause I want some chicks. I'm so tired of disappointment. :(

Roxanne read THIS ARTICLE. After I read it I changed how I hatch shipped eggs and it has helped a lot.

typically with eggs i was leaving them in the incubator 3 days without turning them. that is for eggs that are fresh not shipped. With shipped eggs I did the same thing. if i ever get shipped eggs again i'm leaving them 7 days without turning them at all. This time with fresh i'm leaving them 7 days without turning because i'm getting paranoid now. to many times with no healthy hatches. i know it's cause lately i've been using shipped eggs but still paranoid about it now.
