WOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!! My birds are only a few hrs away from seeing their new home!!!!

congrats! so cool! we just hatched another little cutie today! I am hoping for a pullet since it's the only Jap that made it this hatch, it's doing well with it's surrogate silkie mom and two silkie siblings! We could really use another pullet without defects!

here is our new little one, it hatched this morning and she was not wanting to stand up for photos, guess we will have to wait and see on those little legs (note I said "she" in high hopes!)

I love how the black chicks look like little penguins!

Well thank heavens my favorite little hen finally got over her broody spell and has gone back to laying. I don't care what time of year it is, I'm going to hatch some more of her eggs!

do they need any "special" accomodations in coop designh due to their short legs? do they just fly around to reach things like nest boxes and roosts?

Their coops are better with low roosts. While they can fly, mine seem to prefer hopping up from a lower one to a higher one. I've always had low nest boxes, so I'm not sure if they will fly up to nest. They also drop their wings, so with those short legs, they are dragging the ground. So if you are going to show them, you have to keep up with clean bedding. Roosts should be far enough from the top of the coop to allow for the rooster's tail

jenjscott~ thank you for the reply! I am planning on getting maybe 2, but possibly up to 4, so I think I will have dh build a tiny coop on the ground, with a low roost, and use something small like a childs shoe box lol fo a nest box

Jx2inNC ~ love the pics
