Japanese Bantam Thread!

Pics
Are these short legs?
Thank you!

No, they're not. A good way to judge the leg length on a Japanese Bantam is to wrap your index finger around the leg: there shouls be feathers on one side & foot on the other. Your finger should pretty well cover the entire length of the leg.

Thank you. I love Mr Miagi despite his runway legs. He's got an extra nub. Not sure what thats about or if it's standard. That's Millie back there, a millie fleurs duccle. She is full grown.here she is close up -

Grace is broody! She's got 9 eggs under her. She has long legs, Dad has medium legs. Anyone know what I might expect with these colors & traits?

Two broody hens shared the same nest, sat on the same eggs, and are now cooperating and sharing being mums.... The lucky chicks can decide which mother to sleep under!
Here is the first chick - the other 2 were drying off under the other mother. I will get some photos of them all together tomorrow.

the Proud Dad!

Beautiful father as well. Can't wait for the pic of all the chicks!

Hey everyone got a question for you all

How young was your JB when it first started laying? Trying to get a ball park range for when I should expect my 4 girls to get started

THANKS!

I'm so happy I found this thread! I have two jap banties myself! I'm absolutely in love with the breed too! Mine may not be show quality but that doesn't matter because they have the sweetest personalities out of all the bantams I've had. My pullet is a black tailed buff and the rooster is like a mix of buff and white with a black tail. I definitely want to have them breed and make me more japs! Are the roosters okay around mommas and babies? From the pictures posted on this thread it looks like it but I want to be sure. Also can I have them in the garden? My standard hens and rooster would eat everything in sight but since the banties are small maybe they would just be pest control?
My boy Chibi! See he's some kind of buff/white color mix. He's only 4 months old but already acts like a big boy rooster, he tries to crow even though he can't yet and he tries to mate with all the chickens lol. He even mounted our recently deceased pet male turkey Gally while Gally was dust bathing. Chibi gets a whole lot of flack from my OEGB hen when he tries to woo her
