I placed 4 Japanese Quail Eggs from my Covey into the incubator 16 days ago. Since yesterday 2-3 of the eggs have been pecking away and 1 or 2 of the eggs almost have a pip hole in the top. I opted for the Dry Hatch method.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Should I decrease the temp by half a degree? Or leave them be.

Just leave it be! They will be fine.

Don't freak out if your chicks take long naps during these final phases of hatching. It's hard work, and some will rest as much as 24 hours between these last stages (although that long of a nap is rare, it's not unheard of.) Resist the urge to open the incubator now that you've got pips, the sudden decrease in humidity when you open it, could 'shrink wrap' the chicks in the shell. Opening the 'bator should only be done for an emergency at this stage of the hatch, and then weighed with the possible loss of the other chicks in mind.

:yaSo close now. I've seen this unzip take as much as 12 hours. Don't help it, the kicking and fighting to get out of the shell helps strengthen the chick (more than you'll ever guess)! Everything from breathing better to better control of their feet and legs.

Is Play Sand suitable for the bottom of the brooder?
