From what I understand, it is on the inactive list just as the Rhode Island White is...due to the fact that there are so few, or none, and no one is showing them, so they have been elimenated from the APA SOP.

No, The APA has no inactive list. The ABA has the inactive list and yes it is because of a lack of popularity but this has nothing to do with the APA: two separate organizations.

OK Where do they get the chicken leashes? I have a Ayam Bali rooster who trys to escape everytime you open his pen.
He does not run he goes vertical. I would love to let him out in the yard this spring but fear he will choose the high trees to roost if he gets out, but a leash might work. hummm...

lol. They are called tie-cords.
Belle Farm in NC sells them and will ship.

You can make them very easily though.

saladin nice to meet you.

Thank you for the information on the tie-cords. I was wondering if I could make one out of leather or nylon and velcro.
I am guessing you would place it below the knee and above the spur on a rooster or is it attached through the spur itself?
I will check out Belle Farm in NC.
I have never had this problem with a Java chicken. They all come running to me when I bring out the treats. lol

Nice young Java cockerel. How big is your Java flock? Do you know of or have you seen any Bantam Java Flocks?
I am working to re-establish my Black Java flock and of the 12 young birds I hatched the last couple of months I recently noticed two cockerels and a pullet being noticably smaller than their hatch mates. I know these guys might just be slow growers but I am going to keep my eye on them for possible breeding for a bantam Java line.

We trained hawks when I was a kid, and tied our birds the same on both legs, called 'jessies', a soft leather slip knot...I thought the APA was all in charge of the SOP, and it was they that decided there was not enough popularity to include the bantam variety in the SOP...OK, off to make dinner

There are 2 Standards: The Standard of Perfection (APA) and the Bantam Standard (ABA). Only the ABA has an inactive list.

As to the tie cords:

Nylon cord is fine. Burn the ends so they don't fray. I make mine around 5' long. Slip knot at the end. Before you make the knot you need to place the cord thru some type of tubing so that the cord doesn't cut into the leg.

Cut the cord in half. Get a piece of 1" pvc pipe that is cut about 2" long. Drill a hole thru the sides. This goes in the middle of the tie cord. This will allow the cord to 'swivel' without getting all knoted up.

Then, at the end put another swivel. I use 'j' clamps: usually about 4.

Then place the swivel thru a U-joint and hammer it into the ground.

Hopefully from these 2 pictures you can get the idea better.

Kind of, except the APA writes the SOP, and has put the RIW (and Russian Orloff among a few others I think) on an inactive list, and omitted them from the SOP printing this year, right ?
Or do they just omit and not have an inactive list ?
They have an "omitted" list ? lol ?
All's I know is they have eleminated several breeds from the SOP this year due to inactivity in shows...but you say they do not have an official inactive list ?
I would love to see a list of the LAST place a RIW was shown..but suppose no records like that are kept ?
Nice birds saladin!
Beautiful!

"kind of, except the APA writes the SOP" yes, that's true. There is currently no inactive list in the APA. Records are kept by the secretary of what is shown at sanctioned shows. The Russian Orloff was never in the Standard. Back in the late 1800's early 1900's (not sure the exact year) there was a breed including called a Russian. It was evidently not exactly the same as a Russian Orloff; as I understand it. The Russian was only in the Standard once I think, way back when.

The ABA DOES HAVE an 'inactive list.'
