Jello Egg? No shell. What's up?

Hi there y'all. I just collected a "jello egg". It's a little bit bigger than the rest. It's not that it has a thin shell. It doesn't have ANY shell. Just a kind of clear matte skin. When I held it up to the light, I could see a yolk. It's not going to go into the incubator like the rest of today's eggs, but do you think it is ok to eat it? And is it just a freak from a new layer? I have two RIRs that are pretty young. One has been laying for a month or so (I've seen her going into the coop during the day), but I'm not sure about her sister.
I haven't read anything that I can recall about this situation, so any input is appreciated.
Thanks again!

Not uncommon for a new layer. I've had them before, never have eaten one but, don't see anything wrong with it. Just an egg without a shell. Should still taste the same...IMO

It's a soft shelled egg. It's normal with new layers. As long as you are offering oyster shell, it should just be a fluke.

And I wouldn't eat it, but you could cook it and feed it to your dog or back to your chickens. (just make sure it's cooked, you don't want them to like raw eggs, then you could end up with egg eating chickens)

Here is the one I got a few weeks ago.

After talking to a few bycers its absolutely not uncommon. But not necessarily just on new layers, but any layer.

Just a glitch in their system. I haven't gotten another since.

Wow Spunky~Chick~Mom, that is one icky egg!

My camera batteries are still on charge (been taking too many pictures of my first baby goat, woohoo!

), or I'd post a pic of mine. My egg looks almost like a normal egg, just gooey. Kinda like a saline bag certain human females use to enhance their sex appeal, if ya know what I mean!

I've got 5 dozen eggs in the fridge, so I'll probably take new2chooks advice and feed it to my dogs (cooked of course!). Nobody gets a taste of raw egg around here, if I can help it! The chickens get boiled eggs every few days, and I have plenty for them already.

Thanks all, I kinda figured it might be a glitch in some hen's system, but I just wanted some input in case it might be a clue to something horrific. Ya never know, these girls are a funny bunch. But I love 'em.

Thanks again y'all!

My BR laid a few soft shelled eggs when she started laying. And let me tell you, it's icky when it's warm fresh out of the pullet, and it breaks in your hand.
