Jersey Giant male or female?

@Brahmachicken240 is going to tell you to wait they will both lay eggs. Sorry I just had to say it. :gig

Actually, it was our first batch of chicks (6 breeds). The BJG were noticeably different from each other from very early on, and development was different in several ways. So, we knew early on that it was very likely we had 1 male, 1 female...but had NO clue which was which till they started to diverge in comb/ wattle development. The female is very docile...huge, but docile. Still, she is small compared to the male - it is apparent even in the picture I posted above. So far, only one has laid any eggs :p !!

Not sure why but I really want a Jersey or 2 I even made nest boxes for there size. I only have a JG/RIR mix right now. Great bird with nice pointy tipped eggs very light tan.

To me, a relatively inexperienced chicken keeper with 2 BJG, I think female overall. However, this BJG of @Luaive has pretty thick legs. Also, the pics are a bit too fuzzy to determine saddle feathers very well - the side pic seems like there might be saddle feathers, but hard to tell. The bird is almost 19 weeks old, so some better pics would likely help.

@Luaive, can you catch bird? I've used a laundry basket before to take pics. Turn it on its side, so bird can't get out any other way but the front where you are. A wire dog cage/crate could work. make sure background is boring with nothing too distracting, or just drape with paper, or drop cloth, old jacket...etc. Good Luck! Hope it is a male like you are wanting!

Our female seems to be a pretty reliable layer of nice sized brown eggs. I think she is laying the largest eggs we get. We've been enjoying this breed a lot.
