Jersey Giant

Well one of my boys got in trouble at school so he is outside cleaning up
the yard and having fun with one of the ganders who keeps walking up
behind him every time he turns around cant wait till he figures out all he
needs to do is chase him over to the big yard and close the gate ....

Also working on candling the goose egg's in the brooder something is
going on that I can't figure out as the goslings are growing in the egg's
but dying at the end for some reason and I have 16 egg's now and have
had to toss about 20 this year with no hatches but at the same time
I can hatch chicken egg's with out much of a problem and the 6 duck
egg's are growing just fine but I have another 12 to 14 day's to see
how that is going to work out ...... Oh and the guinea egg's are not
really doing much this year but they have only been in the incubator
for a week and their growing just not what I would like to see ....
And yes I have a digital temp gauge and digital hydrometer for the
incubators I am wondering if I have gotten all of the years out of them
and it is time to build my own and toss the old G.Q.F. incubators and
keep the working parts for the new incubator....

Never hatched ducks before, but I have had fully formed chicks that didn't make it. Usually when I have it crammed to capacity . I thought it may have been because there just wasn't enough circulating air with it being so packed, and they drowned. I'm wondering about my own J G eggs. I never usually candle, "what will be will be" . I don't like messing with the process. This time I candled "home made candler" It showed nothing and it was the 7th day. They came through the post and I wasn't all the impressed with the packaging. I've always had high survival ratios, with 3 exceptions. All were acquired through the post and packed to the gunnel's.
I would be enjoying my kid being put in his place by a bird lol . Having said that , I've never gone up against a goose before , so I might be the one behind the gate slamming it shut in double time lol. Sit down

Sorry I had to wait till the boys got off the computer ...

I normally candle my egg's and pencil mark the air sack as it grows days 7-14-18 to
monitor it's growth and it is also part of teaching my boys how life works ...

Ya mail order egg's are a gamble and I have had low success with them myself ....

Geese are funny birds but have a long weakness it's the neck and this is how I catch them
most of the time unless they are paying attention just need to bend forward and let them
go after your legs and grab the neck easley so as not to hurt them ....

Good question, I try not to keep the egg out of the incubator more then
about two minuets each but I also try to have the room very warm so as
to loose as little heat as possible and I use a candling light I got from G.Q.F.
it is not very powerful but it seals very well on the egg

How is your home made Candler working ?

Not so good. There is too much light escaping and luminating the outside of the egg. Can't see ---- all. Time up in 8 days , so I'm gonna wait out time , which is up in about 8 days.
Don't have your brand of candler . Do you have a pic I can scope out ? plz
