Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

I just hatched 6 of hers, and two left pipped in the incubator. I'll post pics this weekend with the final results.

Awesome! I didn't even realize Bobbi is NPIP! I'm super pleased with the stock I have; I'll be keeping a splash roo and a couple black hens, and a blue. The rest are for sale. I have a GORGEOUS huge, blue boy...but I really am attached to my blue Maria Hall boy, so I'll keep him and the Bobbi splash for breedline diversity in my Jersey pen. I'm uber excited about the next crop!

I am fairly new to the whole chicken pickin' thing. BUT I thought that little fella was a good looking guy. Just the shape of his head and his color. Totally different from the others. I will be rehoming the other roo's but I look forward to seeing this fella in a few months.

my jersey giant is my one chicken who never goes on the roost. i have a lower roost for her to get on but instead she will find strange places to sleep like on the feeder, the feed can, the selves and she will even cuddle up with my duck and goose on the floor

im curious if anyone else finds that their jersey giants don't use the roosts?

Mine all use the roosts, but they are knee high. In fact all my roosts are knee high, or there's too much squabbling about who gets the highest roost.

My Jerseys roost, my roost is only about 18" from the floor, though. You should hear my rooster when he jumps down...the floor moves! Rock on, big man!

I have 2 roosters, Banjo (blue) and Mr. Black. They will be 1 year old in a couple weeks. Here is my daughter, Brittney, holding Mr. Black. He used to have a very nice comb, before Banjo chewed on it!

This is what his comb looked like when he was much younger.

Teddiliza, If you plan on breeding them together, can I be on your hatching eggs/chicks list?? I could come and pick them up, no shipping involved.

I'm really pleased, since 8 of the 12 eggs I got through the mail from Bobbi, sent in the blazing dog days of summer hatched into cuteness! If you don't want to wait till they grow up, she did a good job packing, using quilter's polyfill to nestle the eggs in. I'd been waiting for some of the other byc'ers to get their NPIP certification, but couldn't stand it any longer, and am really happy I took a chance on having the eggs shipped.

But sure, when they grow up we can all do an egg exchange.

I have roost at 2ft 4 ft and I have a cabinet with the top at 5ft. Most of mine use the 4 ft with the other half useing the cabinet. lately 5 will perch on top of the people door until I take them down for the night.

What does your roost look like? Currently, my chicken tractor has small diameter roosts. My mature JG hen won't use it. My in-the-process-of-being-built coop will have 2x4's as roosts to accomodate my growing number of JG's.
