Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Pics
I decided to rehome my Jersey Giant rooster as I am adding a bunch of bantams and he is waaaaaay too big for them. I have him posted in the BST section if anyone here is interested. Not breeder quality but would be good for anyone who likes the breed and keeps a laying flock or just for fun.

I still have my Jersey Giant hen, who is recovering from a shredded back from my RIR roo. Now all the girls wear saddles

That rooster is still figuring out the breeding thing and isn't as gentle as my Jersey Giant roo. Only reason I decided to keep him is I have a bunch of RIR and RIR cross hens and plan to sell them all as a starter flock eventually.

I have got to get new pictures of the Giants I have in the grow out pen. They are really nice .... from Wynette! My older ones, Hall stock, are shaping up as well. I really need to get my breeder pens going, as the older group I have together are about 22 weeks old. I know it takes 3 - 4 weeks to have pure eggs.

Shoot, what am I talkin' about ... I have NO eggs, just a bunch of freeloaders, at this point! Anyway, I need to get them separated. I have a few rooster culls, as well. Have any of you butchered JGiants? I may just end up doing that, in the end. I will keep them longer, to assess who I want to keep, because I realize they mature slowly.

Love it! I bet it was lookin' for it's mama, to crawl up under her wing. How many did you hatch? So sweet!

I was looking at my Jersey Giants from Sand Hills yesterday. I see one of the roos has orange eyes, and the other has dark eyes. I looked in the SOP and it calls for dark brown eyes. He is also the one that has the yellow of the feet going all the way up from the underside of the feet to the sides of them. I think he is a cull, even with his nice size.

Hi, I got 8 out of 8. My first 100% hatch. But, I could be wrong, but they look like they're all blues, I don't see any splashes. Wouldn't the splashes be a lighter color like white with some blue spots?

Hey, congratulations on the hatch!

That's wonderful!

Yes, they would be lighter than the blues. I'll see if I can find a picture of mine, when they were younger.
