Hello everyone, I wanted to stop in because I'm very excited that tomorrow we will be receiving our trio from Maria Hall. We are getting a SQ Blue Cockerel, SQ Blue Pullet and a SQ Black Pullet. Have been just waiting for the temps here to get a little cooler before having her ship, but we ordered them a couple few months ago.
Adrian has built a separate coop and run for them and it's just waiting now for them to move in. I will post some pictures tomorrow. Maria has been so good to us and I cannot wait to see these babies when they get here!
Hiya, Jersey Giant friends! I am elated to report that ONE of my pullets from Oregon (Frank Reese and Robert Vaughn lines) started to lay this week. I'm so excited I could scream! The only problem thus far is she can't seem to figure out the nest boxes. I've never had this much trouble training gals to use the nest box. She lays on the coop floor....so far! I'm going to set her up a little mock nest on the floor where she typically lays, and then once she's using that, will inch it closer to the REAL nest boxes each day. Hopefully, that will work!
Hey, friends - I just wanted to post a quick comment about "SQ" - it seems to be being thrown around quite a bit lately, and we need to understand that just because hatching eggs are out of a proven show champion, that does not necessarily mean the offspring will be "show quality." In my last hatch of 17, my first cut, I culled 7, in my second cut, I culled an additional 5. I'm a bit worried that folks are going to think they are "guaranteed" to get show quality offspring when purchasing hatching eggs from proven adults. Unfortunately, it's just not that easy.
My trio for some reason, is spending the day in Louisville, KY with the Postal Service. They sure didn't get far today. Southern Indiana to Louisville. hmmm. So much for "Guaranteed to be delivered 9/16 by 3:00 pm" And if they don't, how does this Guarantee work?
So, hopefully they will arrive tomorrow. tap, tap, tap
They are here and all is well. Maria had put in apples and corn for them. Now they are settled in in the quarantine cage for the time being. I want them inside to get used to us handling them. They are cute. Here's a quick picture of them.
