I sent you a pmI am looking for some Jersey Giants, males and females. I would like to find some Blue, but other colors are welcome also. I live about 1/2 way between KC and Joplin Missouri.

Dang Wynette. I didnt realize you were going to Newnan. Ive been the last 2 years w giants but skipped this year for another function. I have always enjoyed this show.Framac - MANY THANKS for this post - it brough a huge smile to my face, and folks...make sure you don't have a mouth full of coffee when you're reading on here! (it is no fun coming back out through your nostrils.... )
I have not heard of lavender, either. My guess would be someone must have used Orpington to cross to a blue Giant to "make" them. If that's the case, your lavender (actually "self blue" is what it's called) will have much looser feathering. The feather shafts should ideally be white for self blue. I would be curious to know who the breeder is (please PM me with that info.!)
WOOT! CONGRATS!!!
Sorry I've not been posting much...I have been super, super SUPER busy this year thus far. I am NOT liking it. I did attend the Newnan, GA show the weekend of 2/15 - not a Giant to be seen. I SO wish I'd have taken a few!
Where does one get the marigold extract?Interesting that you mentioned this - on another thread just this morning, we've been discussing Marigold extract. Apparently, oil of Marigold used to be put into most commercial feeds, but is not longer added. Some are saying that if you put a few drops of the extract into your waterers, it will have the same effect that adding corn to your feed routine will. I may try it, just for fun!
So THAT is where they all were! On your farm!Dang Wynette. I didnt realize you were going to Newnan. Ive been the last 2 years w giants but skipped this year for another function. I have always enjoyed this show.
I Googled and found it at many organic type websites, and also right on Amazon.com - I'm going to look at my local organic food store. My town isn't huge, but I'm wondering if the organic food store might carry it. They do carry all sorts of little bottles of things...Where does one get the marigold extract?
Hi, Herman! Welcome to the Giant thread - I'm so glad you've found us!Hello,
Would like some advice.
I need to build a home for my future JG's.
I had been thinking of a 4x8 coop that was raised off the ground on 4x4's.
Now I am wondering if that might not be a good idea with such big birds?
Any advice would be appreciated....
Thanks, Herman
Hi, Herman! Welcome to the Giant thread - I'm so glad you've found us!
My layer coop is 4' x 8' and up on stilts just like you describe. I have a "porch" on the side with a "roof" over the top, and a board for them to walk up. I would think it would be just fine, depending on how many you keep in it, and depending on how large your run is for them. I currently am using this coop as my layer coop (I put all my stock that's not quite exhbition quality in there to let them grow out a bit more & watch...it's my "wait and see" coop), and I have 12 hens and a cock bird in it. They have a good-sized run (about 25' x 40'). I think due to having a nice, big run, being a bit crowded inside doesn't bother them much since they get out almost every day to scratch around and be chickens.
