At the rate I am getting roosters to hen and lavenders to black or to blues, you might start your own KFC. Be careful what you wish for.

They all taste like chicken!!!

Please, explain what you mean by lockdown.

And, I am wanting to see photos of someone whose husband lets them brood in the garden tub. I lost a husband back in 1991, because he said that me chasing a Canadian goose across a frozen pond and bringing it home to recoop after I had his wing repaired in out downstair's steam shower was the straw that broke the camel's back. I ended up a single mom - both our loss.

Lockdown is a phrase coined for the last 3 days of incubation; the time frame when it is recommended to not open the incubator (ie it is locked down); the hatching phase, or when the eggs are moved from bator into the hatcher. speckledhen uses the phrase, "IBW," meaning Intesive Bator Watch!

I am getting 78% males out of one of my roosters. It is really hard to get a good flock of breeders if they all turn out to be roosters.

Thank you for the slang language lesson. I suppose, I am too much of a geek and not hip enough, but I can live with that fact.

Thank you for the genetic lesson in avian species, I specialized in Marine Biology, so I still have lots to learn about avians. Smith CA, Roeszler KN, Hudson QJ, Sinclair AH (2007). "Avian sex determination: what, when and where?". Cytogenet. Genome Res. 117 (1-4): 165–73 stated that "It is possible that both chromosomes are responsible for gender selection." but it is suspected that the W is the major influence. Good to know this. I haven't studied birds before, just basic chicken raising.

I posted a few weeks back that I had sent in an application and questions to the National Jersey Giant Club, but I got no response. I sent a second notice with questions and offered to forward payment if my questions got answered. My questions were answered to my satisfaction today. I will be joining the National Jersey Giant Association. If I receive any thing interesting I will share with you as long as I do not infringe upon copyrights. Robert Vaughn stated that they would be updating their webpage, that would be good.
