Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

How old is your second rooster vs the first rooster? He looks so chunky!
They are around the same age. The Larger Rooster is about 8.5 months, and the other is around 8 months. The Larger of the two is between 10-11 pounds, the other is around 9. They are from 2 different breeders.

Framac, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that black female!!! (the others are nice, too, but boy, that female...she's got it goin' on!)

John, I really am sorry that you're unhappy with what you have. I can't say, though, that this is not an unusual situation. Many of us have "been there, done that." I got hatching eggs from three different breeders and was dissatisfied with each & every one. I do keep one splash female as she's an excellent broody - worth her weight, and makes sense for me to feed her.

There are some excellent lines here in the Midwest - you say you're from Illionis? I'm not far from you, being in Michigan. There's also the district director, Tim Johnson, who is from Ohio. And a man by the name of Calhoun had VERY nice stock (and I belive won BB at Ohio Nationals this year) from OH.

Clearly, you're disappointed - I'm sorry you had to go through that with your chicks and I wish that no one ever had to, but unfortuantely, it happens...a lot. I would suggest selling off what you have - do you hatch? If so, choose someone on here who you like pictures of what you have seen in their stock, and order some eggs. If you do not hatch, then get to know some of us and hop in the car & take a drive - take a look at their stock in person, after asking for lots of photos...there is absolutely nothing like seeing them in person. All it takes is a good start - a good pair or trio to begin with, and you're off to the races!

Does anyone have the Vaugh line of Black Jersey Giants????

I have two people who want to get started this spring with Blacks and need some above average birds that they can breed and show if they wish to.

Let me know on this thread or send me a personel message. Eggs or ten day old started chicks would be fine.

Thank you. bob

So if it is so hard to get birds from Mr. Vaughn does anyone have his line on this web site. You mentioned Tim Johnson, who is from Ohio does he share birds with others or has anyone got Blacks from him?

My first thought was getting 25 chicks from Urch. Most of the people I think who have Black Javas got them from him one time or another.

I have a friend in Texas who is a big booster of Javas so I will ask her.

These people dont want to win big in shows with them but they dont want to start off with scrubs either. I always try to get the best we can locate. I know this breed is on the up swing for improvement but just like the Buckeyes I think a day will come when they will get on champion row some where at a good size show. They are black and you just got to breed and put breeding pressure on type.

Will keep looking and let you know what I find. bob

I did and I am trying now to get in touch with NC Giants who posts on this thread.

We are trying to get some chicks or eggs to get a strain started down her in South Alabma .

I want the best I can get my hands on as we intend to breed these birds up and show them.

Thank you very much for your help. bob
