Hennypenny - yuppers, cockerel!

I got a few pics of my breeders just this morning which I'll post later...still need to get them off my memory card & crop them up a bit!

I didn't think you could tell sex until they were older. Suddenly, my 2.5 week old chick comes up and I get 2 rooster comments. Lol. Is this going to be one bad ars chicken? Lol

Sometimes you can, if they have a big honkin' comb. They don't typically have such big combs at that age, so that's what's saying cockerel to me.

When the 1.5 month old wheaten ameraucana cockerel was injured, this little gj stretched as tall as he could and was ready to take on the much bigger bird. Lol. It was quite a site to see. Luckily the ameraucana wasn't up to a fight and the two became buddies. We were quite surprised to see how fearless the little squirt is.

14 weeks old, and now beginning to show some red in the comb and waddles. I do not see pointy saddle feathers. What do ya think .... boy or girl ? It is hard to get pictures in this run, because it is totally shaded, and makes the pictures dark.

My vote is a pullet. My roo (see my post above) has a much larger comb and waddles at the same age.

OOPS!!! I just re-read my post. I'm a stickler for spelling, and I spell wattles waddles???

Need a little help... I posted my picture of Charlotte on page 85. I don't have another current picture at the moment but her tail pretty much fell out during her first molt and two longer curled tail feathers have come in and some "saddle feathers" have sprung up. No crowing yet (4 months old). Comb not much different in size but face very red. My Charlotte girl is a guy isn't she/he.... She acts so hen like and non aggressive. Most pictures of tails I am seeing the hens are pretty straight and not very red faced. What do yah think?

Kathy, I really need to take pics. Just too hot to think down here in Fl. I don't think any of the 7 are black. 2 are very dark, but not black. I'm sure of 2 cockerels, I think they're twice as heavy as the pullets. I have 2 splash, the lighter one is the one I'm not real sure about. I'll have to take a pic of it. The 2 known males-I can see shiny saddle feathers starting on the center of their back. The lightest one? Nothing yet.,
Anyway, these are the most docile Jerseys I have . They are so friendly and no one cares if I pick them up. They finally got big enough to let out to free range, and seem to get along with the flock pretty well, no snipping yet, LOL. Yes, yes, pics, pics
