They will be 8 weeks old at the end of this week. I sure hope so! I had only planned on keeping one, but they are so sweet we want to keep both pullets. And I'd keep a rooster if only I could.

I hate making these decisions, but I have to say, it's gotten easier & easier as time goes by. It's funny how I look at then completely differently now than I did several years ago!

Prisser - that's a cute little cockerel! He's gonna have some honkin' wattles & a huge comb!!

Not sure if this is the right spot but, I thought I would try here for some JG advice. Actually, I thought I bought BA pullets, but now they are about 7 weeks old and I have noticed that 2 of them have Yellow on the bottom of their feet. Unlike the rest, who all have white/pinkinsh. So, my question is, if the legs are black and the bottoms of the feet are yellow does that mean that they are actually JGs?

Well....I THINK half of my Jersey chicks are pullets from you Wynette! Two of your splash roo's look really nice I think...but will probably keep one of Maria Halls black roos instead of a splash. (think that since I can only keep one roo...better to have a black to keep the color good....right? Assuming he has good form too.)

I have not given my hens, roos or chicks any ice but they have mostly shade to roam and coop in so I think they are doing ok. I give them fresh water 3-4 times during these hot days.
Hope this heat wave passes soon for Michigan and all the other states going through it!

It is difficult, and this will be the first time keeping more than what I said I would!! But it is also partially because it's hatchmates of the other breeds are not what they were supposed to be, so that left some room to keep two JGs. I've been outside working all morning and the dark one in question was up in my buisness almost the whole time. I'll be upset if it's not a pullet.

AWE! I love it when they are so comfortable spending time directly with their slaves!

2overeasy - you'd need to post pics for us to have a lookie at your stock before we could tell for sure what they were. Where did you get them?

Fifelake - it works both ways, so if you have some nice black pullets, then you could keep a splash cockerel and the resultant offspring would be 100% blue, with really good lacing (or that's the theory!).

Look for type, first...it's hard to look past the colors, for sure. I have major trouble looking past blues, for shape, as they are my favorite. I have actually never been super keen on splash coloring for cock birds, though my current boy is splash.

Thanks. Working on loading the pics. I got them from a local farm.
