But, if they are yellow underneath, on the bottoms of the feet, it does seem to make sense that if something is added to the feed to "improve" the yellow, that it could "extend" what is already there & yellow, yes?

I don't think it would cause the yellow color to appear where it was not before. I believe it just "brightens" what is already yellow.
Feed or not, I will cull any of them with yellow up the legs. Just can't have that. I frequent several poultry forums and I posted some pictures of this issue on another site. I got feedback from several "experts," and they all said it would be a DQ as incorrect leg coloring.

You are correct. Feed does not make yellow, it already has to be there. Feed will then accentuate the yellow. There are plenty of people on here that don't believe this though.....not sure why when it has been proven numerous times.

Well, I sure do believe it! I proved it with my Delawares. Some simply did not have the yellow legs and the feed did not change that. The ones with yellow legs became much brighter.

That makes sense. Kathy, how long will you give them? Do you think it's possible that as they mature, that yellowness up the leg would disappear? It doesn't look like there is much...

Not much longer. I may wait another month. I can just see it coming in. I don't think it will disappear. I am not gonna waste my time and feed on them much longer. What a disappointment. My next stop (shopping) will be at the Crossroads.

I really do not have much experience yet, but that does not look like much yellow to me.

Looking at those pictures shows me that my girls have way too much yellow. They have way more than that. Thanks for sharing. Please let us know what you decide.

Kathy, have you eaten any yet? I understand they are DE-LISH. Not trying to be offensive, just sayin' in case you do decide to cull.

I do have a date with the processor on Sept 13. However, these guys won't be big enough to mess with for that. I am all about meat and eggs with my chickens! Home grown chicken is soooooo much better than that store bought stuff!

for sure - no antibiotics or steroids for one thing. Knowing how they were treated, fed, and lived their lives...that stuff is ALL priceless in my book.
