Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

hi all
i am looking for someone who is near by Boerne tx. who would want my splash jersey giant roo. he is 19 weeks old hasn't crowed yet, i was hoping he was a she but i just can't deny it any longer. he is huge! the biggest bird in my flock and he is low chicken on the totem pole. which is why i think he hasn't crowed yet also why his tail is a mess. i can't keep him (live in town and don't want to upset the neighbors) if someone is close and wants him i am willing to drive some and meet in between. i hatched this guy from eggs i got from Wynette in May.

Yeah... if that bird was 12 weeks old, I would say boy... but 19 weeks? I don't see sickles/hackles and without a crow... I would wait another few weeks.

when i compare it to the other 3 that hatched with it the comb and wattles are soooo much bigger. i would love for it to be a girl that would be great. the others comb aren't as big or red and they have little to no wattles so far. thats why i was fairly sure its a he but if you all think it looks like a she then maybe i should hold on to her/he.

Could you post a picture of one of the others?
My pullets were hatched 3/18/11 and still have very little comb and they are Wynette's line too.
My roosters are the only ones with combs and wattles right now.
They pullets are just starting to get color in.
Knowing mine and the line I would lean more rooster but I would like to make sure by a pic of another you have.
If you go to my site you can compare mine. The blks and the two oldest pullets are not the same line. The rest are bigger not the young chicks.

I found one of wynettes auctions. The lower pic has 3 approx 15 week olds 2 girls one boy. The boy at 15 weeks has the same size comb and bigger wattles (or so it looks) than yours at 19wks. There is still hope. I know that for a while when my first pair were growing I thought I had 2 roos, but I ended up with a girl and a boy. I have a blue growing out from wynette right now thats about 8wks and I am praying its a girl but my luck is never that good.

ok grabbed a quick pic of the other 3 hatch mates 2 blue and 1 splash. see how different they look

thats what makes me think roo, if not then she/he developed faster than the rest i guess.

Breeders feel fortunate to have 1 in 10 result in keepers to continue on the next generation.
