Thanks, Wynette. I know I've got a ways to go with my birds, but I think it will be worth the effort because I enjoy them most of the birds I keep. My plan is to use the two black hens I got this fall with my splash cockerel and then keep the best blue hens to use with the black cock from the trio. If I come out with a better typed cockerel in the splash's offspring, I'll replace him with his son. I really like the blue color so my goal is to have a few blues up to the SOP to show in Fall 2014. Long range, but I think it will probably take every day of it! I joined the Giant Club this fall and am thinking of going to the New Jersey meet this fall to get a look at what I should aim for in my program. The good points about this guy are he's got the size weight-wise and a breadth of heart-girth that will at least make for decent roasters as I weed out the culls. If I can work towards a longer back like you've mentioned, that should yield attractive (and tasty!) results.
