The show this fall in NJ should be a good one for the Giant club. Back here on the east coast. Hopefully Tom Tiefel will be down from NY. After spending some time with Tom at a show i left with much excitement about Giants. He is very knowlegeable with the breed. I enjoyed the Giant row and club table at Xrds last fall. My birds were molting but i still managed to take 4 hens there. I will be showing in Newnan Ga Feb 17/18th. Still haveall week to call in a entry!!!! Would like to see more giants there this year.

Sugarsands - Will you be showing Giants @ Newnan again this year?

Just candled my first JG eggs last night and got a great rate! I'm so proud of them. I set 10 and got 10 growing chicks due the 14th.
They and my OEL's both were 100% and my Auburn Javas came in next with 7 out of 10. All of these are the young and first time hatching pullets.

Nice White JG's Kathy

I have a couple of questions.

1) Are the Whites based on a dominant or recessive form of White?

2) Has anyone tried breeding Whites and Blacks together? Perhaps there are genes for other colors/patterns in the breed that can be brought out without crossing to another breed. Considering the breeds used to create the Jersey Giants, perhaps Mottle from Javas lurks in their background. I'd suspect that you'd be more likely to find it among the Whites, since they could be ANYTHING under those white feathers. I'm thinking about what happens when someone tries crossing a White Silkie with a Silkie of another color -- the White color acts as a mask, and the birds could genetically be anything else as well.

Soaring - AWESOME! Glad your gals are laying. Mine haven't yet begun for the year. They're close, though - I have one checking out her favorite laying spot (which, unfortunatley, is on the floor of the coop, but I have a plan to get her moved to the nest box. Last fall, try as I might, she refused to lay anywhere else, but I now have more ideas!).
