Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Nice looking birds from what I can tell with the cage wire in the way.
Oh if we could just take show pictures and the wire would just be gone and we all could enjoy the bird only.
Nice picture taking.

Tonya,
I at least have 3 blue cockerels and one black cockerel and 1 blue pullet from the eggs from you. I had a splash hatch but lost it. I'll let them put a little more weight on and then get pictures.

Well thats good. Wish it was more.
I'd love to see pictures.
I've have a rough move to NC and lost some of my young JG's do to stress and a Freaking dog attack!. I dont think I've cried so hard over loosing my birds before. All from Wynettes line of course! My splash and blues and a few blks. about 8 in all.
The dog rammed the temp coop ( kennel)till the wires holding the chain link can a part!) The animal control came and got the stray dog.
So at least she wont be back. I still have enough pullets and cockerels to pick and breed from next year. Thank God I did get that last order from Wynette. I just so hope I get enough for breeding SOP. We found this after coming home from work the other day. She even got my other Birchen Marans pullet. We hope to have all the coops moved down here by next weekend and hopefully set up not to long after.
Not the way we wanted to do things but the company my hubby works for loaded us down with work and between trying to unpack and make the place ours and finish moving I feel like a top spinning non stop. I happen to have a sinus infection and dont feel up to any work now so Im on here trying to stop and breath for a while. The move was a good one and we are happy just have to get everything safe from strays and other preditors that like chickens too. I sure will be glad to when things calm down and life gets back to normal.

Wynette so sorry I lost the birds but I'm blown away by the ones I have which as you know is no small #.
I may get more eggs from you next year though just to be safe.
Hope I did not miss to much andthat all is well with everyone and I really do hope to be on line more offen now.
Thanks for the update!
Tonya

Congrats!!! Make sure & let us all know who the judge was when you find out - any notes on the card you can share? Can't wait to see pics! AWESOME! GO GIANTS!!!

Framac, thanks so very much for posting the pics! It's always difficult to be able to tell a lot from pics, as you never know quite how they are standing, etc. But, that male looks to be very nice - love his topline and underline - and when you see him straight from the front, just look at all that space between his legs! You can see he's going to be a hefty male when he's filled out!

Tonya - I'm SO VERY SORRY to hear your news! That's awful!

I know these things happen, but it doens't mean it's not difficult. Gosh, that just ROTS!!! Hope you have enough to be able to continue on with them. If not, get with me in the spring!

you know something that surprised me was that people do not remember my name or the boys name but they can tell me what breed of chicken I walk in the door with! That amazed me

The reason I knew this was about the cards. The judge put little marks on the pen cards. I went to ask a very knowledgeable older man ( He just stepped down from running the STATE POULTRY PROGRAM hear in INDIANA. Any way he could not remember my name but went on about our Giants that he had seen this yr at the shows. I asked him about the cards. The judge would put a small letter on some of the cards. What does that mean? He told me that was the way he (the judge) keep track of all the birds he had seen. Usually its the first thing he notice on the bird.

Soaring Chicks,

Not to take anything away from anyone here, but you are very fortunate to have a breeder fairly close to you in NC, if you are looking for different lines. He did very well at the show this weekend. He had Second Place Hen, Cock, Cockerel, and 1-4 Pullets, RB, RV. He is the Director for your area, someone else to possiblly contact and fairly close.

The Pullet and the Hen I got were from him.

The Cockerel came from the Secretary of the club, Mr. Vaughan.

Yep, they each have their own "system" - I have seen some judges put a large "+" sign and then letters in each or some of the quandrants. It helps them when choosing the class and breed winners. Some judges just use check marks, and total them up. Like, say the bird has an exceptional topline - check. Also, maybe the bird has perfect shank feathering (for that breed), another check. Perhaps the color pattern is really crisp/clean - another check. Then, he'll go back & see the number of checks and know the ones with certain numbers are the ones he's wanting to taken another look at for class winners, or what have you. I love it when they actually put notations such as "+ cond" or "DQ/stubs" - it's such a learning experience!
