Jersey Giants

I have 3 JG hatchery hens. Not any bigger than a hatchery orpington.
All of them can very easily clear a 6' fence.

JGs are one of my favorite breeds. I currently have 96 that I am raising up.
Please tell me why you like them so much. I have had no experience with them. In fact, to my knowledge I have never even seen one. However, it is my intention to get a few this spring primarily for pets and for eggs. I may even get a few caponized. I am planning to get them because from what I have read they are big gentle chickens that are easy to keep in. Any comments? Anything to add? Anything I should know?

They are the Great Danes of chickens. Big birds that are sweet and gentle. I have never had a mean JG rooster. Never have had one that got aggressive with my children. I have had an aggressive rooster of other breeds. We have over the years raised Salmon Faverolles, Buff Orpingtons, Welsummers, Silkies, and several other breeds. Jerseys are the big gentle giants.
