I was wondering if anybody can answer this question. I went out to the coop a couple of days ago and my broody only had 4 eggs left out of 12. I went out there today and there are no eggs left. What is happening. are they being eaten by something, or is the rooster doing something to them. Please help!

Sorry to hear you lost the eggs. Are you finding any remains, shells etc of the eggs around? If you have that many missing at once, I would guess that something is eating them, doubtful it is the rooster. I don't know what predators you have in your area, but opossums, snakes, rats are a couple of possible suspects. How secure is your coop/run area?
How long it takes broodys to start laying again varies, but I usually figure on around 4-6 weeks if I break them of being broody if they don't go into molt (they will take longer usually if they are actually raising chicks)

thanks for responding. We have many predators. Foxes, possums, skunks, raccoons, deer, hawks. the list goes on and on. We used to close the coop at night time, but I have since fenced in the area of where the chickens are. I am assuming that they got in somehow, and now I will be closing the coop every night, no matter if its fenced in or not. I am just so disappointed because there were so many eggs.

Yes, a failed hatch is disappointing, sorry again about the loss of the eggs. Do double check your coop security, and try to figure out what was getting in, you don't want it to be going after the chickens themselves next.

Proud to say my Broody is back. She has 2 eggs and I am going to consider this day 1. I will make sure the cage is closed every single night so we don't lose them to any predators.unfortunately I lost all 12 the last time.
