Jest Another Day in Pear-A-Dice - Higgins Rat Ranch Conservation Farm in Alberta

Had to get up yesterday morning at 4am to see hubby off at the airport … Last time hubby went away, when he got back I told him “next time you go away you are either taking me or Syba [cat] with you .. do not leave me home alone with him again!” Leading up to this trip, I kept jokingly asking Syba if he had his little suitcase packed because he was going on a trip with his Dad. Starting to think I should have done that ……

I saved a few movies on Foxtel that I wanted to watch again while hubby was away .. Dances With Wolves, Master and Commander, The Shining, The Birds, Fargo and The Postman Always Rings Twice .. got the Peanut M&M’s out last night and sat down at 7pm to watch 3 hours of Dancing With Wolves, thinking that I would sleep really well after getting up at 4. Think again, went to bed at 10 and tossed and turned for 2 hours .. also, Syba is missing his Dad and decided that trying to push me out of bed might be fun or, better yet, sit in the hallway howling because his Dad is not home!

I think I might have to post hubby a cat box sized package

do they have kitty cat happy pills? we used to give our dog something to chill her out during fireworks.... They make herbal stuff too. Just to help her let you get to sleep. LOL.

Heel low:

Maybe should have named them thunder and lightning

Oh heavens NO!

Rick's ring tone on his cel...wait fer it...

Thunderstruck by AC DC:
I think Rick 's very fond of Lacey and Tara likes the challenge of Emmy.

Funny because when we decided we wanted TWO pups...Rick said he wanted a full masked blue and he said to me, "And you will need a RED girl!" LMBO...we can all count on Rick to play puppies different than I...so Rick decided to water the plants and as mentioned, I had "help" earlier that day with filling the goose ponds (pups hanging off rubber hoses...yeh, not heavy and sweating enough!)...so Em knew about the fun of a hose...or she thought she did!

Water in the works!!
droolin.gif

Soggy Doggy in the makings!

And fer DD...since Em was the only one that wanted to be rough and rowdy with the hosed water (beast for punishment!) when I brought out the camera and was still myself to click, the only photos I got to take were of Emmy...since this was Lacy..

Drowned RAT that said, not my game, eh!

But I do have evidence that there was a few shenanigans on the go besides just young things running thru the water hose spray...

Lookit the guilt look...who tossed Stump Chook...Well? Who was in now?

Emmy is looking in Rick's direction...some how she KNOWS Stump Chicken is one of the few lawn ornaments of his...

I do enjoy watching Dances with Wolves...don't like the emotional draining bad parts but hey, no happy without sadness to measure it by! Love watching it over and over, should own a copy I guess.

Oh heavens...we have had dogs like your cat...won't settle down period if one of us is away from the cave for times when we should not be! I hope you get thru this and find the sleep and rest you need.

How did you get them to stay still for portraits.... LOVE the pix

Hmm...mantra with ACDs..."a tired ACD is a GOOD ACD..."

Example...this is why Styra Foam does not want ACD puppers...Aug 14, 2015.

So I tired both Lacy and Emmy out...thought I would begin with Emmy as she would be the most sensible pup to really do the "better accept them" routine with Foamers... Lacy went back to the house and was put down for a puppy wuppy nap...

"Who let the pup out?"
ya.gif

What dog or person on EARTH wants this...lookit the "Oh I so LOVE you pounce" by Em...yeh, hilarious so long as YOU are not the recipient! UGH!
barnie.gif

Yeh, so the pup is submissive...but heck, we all know the Emmy will pounce again...can't help herself...she is PUPPY! That is what they do.
sad.png

A few laps around the puppy playground and Emmy is beginning to GET some puppy to adult old dog manners...kinda!
hmm.png

Once the pup is near death on energy levels...they are somewhat tolerable...not like Emmy will behave the next time I bring Foamers in loose with her off lead. We shall start up all over again, but at this click in time, Emmy was only tolerable because she was TIRED (see ACD mantra, eh)!

This is the three of us on the way to put Foamy away in her kennel. I showered Foam with cookies, told her how proud I was of her tolerance and took the young whippersnapper back tp the house and her containment area so she could have a much earned morning puppy nap.

I retrieved Lacy and we went off and did chores. Me filling five gallon water bucket.

We did some quality testing of the garden sugar peas...must meet puppy expectations or I wasted those efforts, eh.

This is her second one...are they sweet, are they puppy approved...can you tell by the puppy look?
hu.gif

And of course, worked on our conformation show training...

Lacy on lead

How come Lacy gets a small picture and Emmy get a BIG picture. We don't want to invoke jealousy among them (or their fans) - Do we?
tongue2.gif

Oh that's never gonna happen here. Because I love them equally, I go about making the photos smaller to post and save costs. I don't pay attention if there are nine of Lacy and one of Emmy and what size the photo appears to be on here.

love.gif

Love is love and I feel like their Mother and we all know that a mother's loved knows no bounds (Dad's too). If I counted out who got what number of photos posted, I'd lose my nut and begin to worry that we loved one more than the other.

Aug 15, so why is Emmy's butt closer to my camera, why do I care. I click pics and if they turn out half decent and I have the time and energy, I post them. There are tons of candid shots I am missing because I am living them, not recording them...being detached from sucking in the puppy breath and absorbing the special life lasting memories, in my mind.

This is how I think of the girls...two pups that love us, that play mean and nasty like all ACDs have always done, that sit together and try to chew thru the cord I put on the tire jump...totally use the equipment in ways that one never designed them for...and I still sit, laugh and love the both of them. Watch that they don't tug the whole contraption over on themselves and enjoy moments like this one...

A rare click because 99% of the time, my big butt is in that lawn chair and them puppers is under it. Being sweet angels amusing themselves happily.

I have a new dog, too! Not a puppy, but new to me. A lady that had one of my LGDs brothers needed to rehome him and I went and got him. He is in an adjustment phase now but doing well!! Here's Bubby!

Coming home.

Handsome boy!

And yes indeedy...I so want to touch those softy velvetted ears! Thank you for sharing Buddy with us Wisher!

Other jobs on the go here.

Repotted the arrow grass (got the two cattails to do next) as the planting pot we bought was too porous, so bought water plant material and repotted to keep planting medium IN pot.

Veg garden, aug 14...holy moley...she's a growing concern.

So lush, my raised beds are almost pathless, plants falling over into the pathways!
big_smile.png

We have had rain when needed, heat and excellent growing conditions this year! YAH!

Aug 13

New tater and corn patch...harvested one potato per plant...loving it. Dogs have helped out too!

Aug 9, 2015 Potato helpers

Saved up jobs that could be completed with pups...

Sort bottles with deposits...

Helper pups

Dang disordered mess, two days sorting...

Begins to result in this tidy vision...

Progressively organized.

Emmy, digs a nice dog hole in gravel, stays cool

Dirt nose!

Rick drove me three times to bottle depot and we celebrated with dinner...got $475 back on our deposits! Kewl, eh!

Wake up Tara, BYC announced there will be a second calendar for "Other Poultry," ie, ducks, geese, swans(I'm sure), turkalurks, guineas, quail. Only two photos per member. Of course Rick could put in 2 as well , I guess. Contest ends Sept. 15. Shake a tail feather. Maybe you can win in the chicken and "other" categories.

Of course I think there should be a cattle dog puppy calendar as well. But, maybe we can wait another year for that.

I think one entry of two photos is good. For the effort, getting a copy of the calendar would be alright but I have been spoilt in the past...last two photos I submitted for publishing netted me a cheque for $120.

Five days without Tara & co.
barnie.gif

Gone back to work and winter mode Dearest. Got frost two nights in a row...heard Calgary got snow. Bwah ha ha...frost on the pumpkin time.

At 2 a.m., the Northern Lights were more magnificent than ever. Got the pups bobbing for crabapples (well OK, Emmy is, Lacy just lets her get a soggy face and steals them...Em's fine with that, how many apples is she gonna munch without getting a tummy ache?) regular movers of the ruminants with Foamers helping too--what a TEAM!

About a week ago, Lacy showed me how a 15 1/4 inch at the withers Cattle Dog can at a standing start leap 48 inches up and over an ex-pen panel with the greatest of ease. Emmy does not have a top on her pen but Lacy does and about two days ago, forgot to flip and clip the top back over on Lacy's pen and she came got me when I was getting more newsprint. ACDs are that incredibly awesome, eh! Have the physical abilities to defy logic and the mental capacity to do pretty much anything they want. Not for the faint of heart or the unprepared.

Bus is here and parked-picked it up an Thursday at first meeting. Another meeting next Thursday...already getting calls about, "When is my pickup time?" which will go on right on up to when the last one registers and that will be the evening prior to the first of the morning pickups (AGH!).

Son comes today to take his canoe outta temporary storage to go use on one of the local lakes here. Pups will love this "meet & greet." Rick has had a fella come by to assess the half roof raising and the pups were tres happy to slather him in kisses but I kept them civil on leads.
tongue.png

No photos to post right now. Far, far too busy to be able to pause that long. Besides, the pups are fussing they want to go back outside--GOOD DOGS! Goose chore time, eh and I have canine buddies to shadow my every move...am in heaven indeed. Dogs are turning out even better than we could have ever imagined!
