Jest Another Day in Pear-A-Dice - Higgins Rat Ranch Conservation Farm in Alberta

This is the question that I posted...what species gave us this egg (and two more eggs now & maybe another today even) and that is their foot prints in the snow below also...

What species??:

The foot prints SCREAM whether the birds are land or water fowl...yes??

I know which birds gave us the eggs and want someone to figure out what species the eggs are from... The egg not on the weighing portion of the scale above is a stone egg I use so the female will keep laying eggs since I am stealing her eggs and don't want her to quit laying eggs...

It is certainly a water bird.
The Tadorna, AKA Shelduck?

Yah!

Thank you Benny!!!

Fixins and the Ruddy pair - Nov 2013

I was getting worried I would be setting their eggs and hatching their GUCKlings (yes, I remember, you told me to call them Shelducks!)... before anyone guessed what species laid the eggs. Three so far...so far so good!

April 2014

Got this pair late fall of 2013 and up until NOW -- never an egg.

April 24, 2017

Now we have eggs...

Heel low:

And we have a fourth egg today.

May Day egg, the fourth!

I do believe the Ruddy's eggs are steadily getting bigger...

What a delicious weekend we had.

Tried out another supposed "best burger" place that was said to be good on a television program and while it was not as expensive as the last one, the use of MSG put me off. Two bottles of water later I am thinking..."Gack...gotta pre-ask restaurants if monosodium glutamate is in the food!!" Blah! I forget that fact and then pay the consequences...dry mouth, water guzzling, swollen up taste buds. If the food is GOOD...you don't NEED MSG...

Rick now has the fountain and fish pond up and running and doing his revamp.

The two pallets of grey structural bricks are being used...we shall have many left over but better than running out!
wink.png

He wants two rows of blocks around the fish pond and likely have to bring up some wheelbarrows of lime rock to shore up the bricks as he wants them level. Yes, he even hung new wind socks...so springish, eh!

Fish are in the garage still, not quite warm enough and with all of us banging the sides of the stock tank...that would make unhappy fishies, so waiting a bit.

No. 1 son came to visit and brought his C@t Cookie. Boy oh boy did the girl dogs have fun.

"May I bite it now...can I, can I?"

Yeh, that is Lacy and nope, she was just biding her time to cheap shot the cat...I warned the kid, she's gonna pounce and sure enough...she did.

DD says she likes multiple occupants, girls in the photos, so here are three girls...and then...

FOUR girls...

Son decided for the sake of tranquility...Cookie the Cat needed crate time and yes, that is a PINK crate. Cookie thought it great to have the attentions of three cow girls, and the fact that all were playing follow the leader cat...even grander.

Let's jest say the cat was the focus of the hour that day.
hmm.png

And at the end of the day, the cat was surprisingly willing to "walk the plank"...
lol.png
of her own accord and note, son had her leashed. No water yet in the fish pond, but truly death defying, Cookie, walking the plank.

Course when son comes over to visit...reason to feast and we did.
smile.png

We had dessert first...green lime jello (kid loves that) and strawberries he brought, blueberries and whipped cream he made up while his Mom sliced and diced other entrees.

Various VEG for the shrimp stir fry starter

I got a ten times the recipe BBQ sauce started up for the steaks. Fresh batch, must be warmer weather coming, then??

BBQ sauce, enough for a year perhaps??
tongue.png

And the main meal...

Steak on BBQ, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and toppings...ice tea with lime slices

Was great time had by all.

Laughed at the girls...yes, spring in the air and well, could they maybe play "hose the dogs?"

\
Lacy would not take her eyes off Rick...

She finally realized he was NOT going to hose the dogs down...

And settled for "chase the other doggy round abouts!"

Rick was not completely MEAN (tho it is still pretty cold out), he filled the girls splishy tub...

So they could get water if'n they wanted water...
