Jest Another Day in Pear-A-Dice - Higgins Rat Ranch Conservation Farm in Alberta

part 2 of 2

Next day, prepare for 1/3 of a year's feed for poultry.

May 19 2017 IMGP1812.jpg

three of the four pallets...one in front of dog kennel to be loaded to feed room

Four tons/160 fifty five pound bags - 60 waterfowl pellets, 60 layer crumble, & 40 turkey finisher (no ampro). Plus a bag of lamb milk replacer too...jest in case my sweets have issues coming up lambing for begin of June...hmm expensive stuff wonder if it would go well with cereal...bwa ha ha!

OSB on stick lumber...a chute so to speak

My Hero has to do new set up for truck...the 1989 one ton had a 10,000 pound winch, the new truck does not. Use his power winch we bought for loading firewood and requires slipper run way so pallets do not twist or get hung up.

May 18 2017 IMGP1633.jpg

May 18 2017 - parked and ready to rock and roll
looong unit...22 long for trailer, five feet of hitch, 22 feet of truck...near semi trailer length, eh

Leave house at 06:45 and get home at 13:20...long day and she's done! :woot

Laugh at my sheeps...bawling at me when I return yesterday to check on everyone...are they outta feed...NOPE :p

May 19 2017 IMGP1841.jpg

May 19 2017 -
Oh my! Down to alfalfa STEMS...what an infraction!

Yelling at me to "let them on green grass!" Yeh, sure... :th

No concept as to what it takes to keep this show running, eh.

Geez, I stay logged in but, it made me log in again to reply to your posts. What's with that - Scott probably knows. He has been mentoring me.

So good to be back here . I even needed Nifty's help. The new BYC kept making me do a two step log in and then each time it would say error and give me new code no. that never worked. Nifty found the problem asap and turned off the thingamajig that said I needed a two step login.
I tried shutting off the constant emails I get from every post but, I still get them and they squeeze out important emails. Luckily I noticed yours Tara, thank you for throwing me a life preserver.

Last day of Victoria (that'd be QUEEN Victoria and the celebration of her birthday for most of us in the Common Wealth!!) Day weekend and I can hear the ROAR of the traffic past our little patch of dirt. AND the sound of the vehicle counter cords begin hit mighty hard.

Good Hearted Woman
Written by Willie and Waylon
(my fav version sung by Waylon~ gone at 64; much, much too young!)

A long time forgotten the dreams that just fell by the way
The good life he promised ain't what she's livin' today
But she never complains of the bad time or the bad things he's done
She just talks about the good times they've had and all the good times to come

Yeah she's a good hearted woman in love with a good timin' man
She loves him in spite of his wicked ways she don't understand
With teardrops and laughter they pass through this world hand in hand
She's a good hearted woman lovin' a good timin' man

He likes the bright lights and night life and good time friends
When the party's all over she'll welcome him back home again
Lord knows she don't understand him but she does the best that she can
She's a good hearted woman lovin' a good timin' man

I'm a good hearted woman in love with a good timin' man
And I love him in spite of his wicked ways I never understand
With teardrops and laughter we pass through this world hand in hand
I'm a good hearted woman lovin' a good timin' man

With teardrops and laughter we pass through this world hand in hand
I'm a good hearted woman lovin' a good timin' man
I'm just a good hearted woman lovin' a good timin' man

But you know the words of James Brown song

".....This is a man's world
This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing
Nothing without a woman or a girl"..

And my dear Benny, this world would be nothing without men! My heart sings the praises to the fact that we are so lucky to have men (if only to make women look good!)... :lau

May 21 2017 - Cut up the whole beef sirloin
Roast for Rick, steaks for the freezer, trimmings for dog dishes!

Rick cooked up the beef roast on the rotisserie as planned.

May 21 2017 IMGP2449.jpg

May 21, 2017
Cooked slow and low...smoked with hickory chips
Delicious does not even come close!! :p

He chose "hickory" wood chips soaked and believe he did that three times. What a fabulous roast...cut out from a whole beef sirloin, it had just the right amount of smoke crust and was still juicy.

May 21 2017 IMGP2460.jpg

Potato with sliced onion,
corn on cob wrapped in its own husk,
Beef roast

Done well done, that is how he likes it and I like mine basically raw (blue rare) but have come to very much enough well done. We are such polar opposites that it is fun to enjoy what the other enjoys...a peak into their perception of the world, eh! ;)

Forever And Ever Amen
Favorite version sung by Randy Travis
Song written by Don Schlitz & Paul Overstreet

You may think that I'm talking foolish
You've heard that I'm wild and I'm free
You may wonder how I can promise you now
This love that I feel for you always will be
But you're not just time that I'm killin'
I'm no longer one of those guys
As sure as I live, this love that I give
Is gonna be yours until the day that I die

Oh, baby, I'm gonna love you forever
Forever and ever, amen
As long as old men sit and talk about the weather
As long as old women sit and talk about old men
If you wonder how long I'll be faithful
I'll be happy to tell you again
I'm gonna love you forever and ever
Forever and ever, amen

They say time take its toll on a body
Makes a young girl's brown hair turn gray
Well, honey, I don't care, I ain't in love with your hair
And if it all fell out, well, I'd love you anyway
They say time can play tricks on a mem'ry
Make people forget things they knew
Well, it's easy to see it's happenin' to me
I've already forgotten every woman but you
Oh, darlin', I'm gonna love you forever
Forever and ever, amen

As long as old men sit and talk about the weather
As long as old women sit and talk about old men
If you wonder how long I'll be faithful
Well, just listen to how this song ends
I'm gonna love you forever and ever
Forever and ever, amen
I'm gonna love you forever and ever
Forever and ever, forever and ever
Forever and ever, amen

And us old women DO sit and talk about you old men... :p

Differences like yin and yang, like how we compliment each other...how it takes two of us to manage the children (like tag team wrestlers!), and how we meet, fall in love, join up and then are blessed to have children (I joke about being a quick learner & learning from our mistakes thereby having ONE child!) which drives the couple apart...but the children grow up, go away (empty nest??) and once again, the couple are alone again...and we discover our relationship and now it is different but the same.

Livin' On Love
Written by Alan Jackson and Alan Eugene
(Been to three concerts in my life; Tammy Wynette and George Jones, Willie Nelson and Alan Jackson...heard this one live and it was wonderful! :hugs )

Two young people without a thing
Say some vows and spread their wings
Settle down with just what they need
Livin' on love

She don't care 'bout what's in style
She just likes the way he smiles
It takes more than marble and tile
Livin' on love

Livin' on love, buyin' on time
Without somebody nothin' ain't worth a dime
Just like an old fashioned story book rhyme
Livin' on love
It sounds simple that's what you're thinkin'
But love can walk through fire without blinkin'
It doesn't take much when you get enough
Livin' on love

Two old people without a thing
Children gone but still they sing
Side by side in that front porch swing
Livin' on love
He can't see anymore
And she can barely sweep the floor
Hand in hand they'll walk through that door
Just livin' on love

Livin' on love, buyin' on time
Without somebody nothin' ain't worth a dime
Just like an old fashioned story book rhyme
Livin' on love
It sounds simple that's what you're thinkin'
But love can walk through fire without blinkin'
It doesn't take much when you get enough
Livin' on love

Livin' on love, buyin' on time
Without somebody nothin' ain't worth a dime
Just like an old fashioned story book rhyme
Livin' on love
It sounds simple that's what you're thinkin'
But love can walk through fire without blinkin'
It doesn't take much when you get enough
Livin' on love

No, it doesn't take much when you get enough
Livin' on love

Livin' and lovin' the "L's" to happiness unhindered! :love

Tilling....May 20 & 21...Rick tilled the handsown oats under on Saturday, a bit before I drug him away to an auction...he got on it first thing on Sunday... What a good man!! :hugs Man & machinery; get outta the way, eh!

May 21 2017 IMGP2084.jpg

My bean fence, time to remove it!
Impeding progress!

Time for tilling and prepping the soil. Last year, planted potatoes June 4, likely happen again this year. My collection of kinds is growing so swiftly, I will have to plant some here. Where I planted some in this area, the soil is magnificent! :)

May 20 2017 IMGP2051.jpg

Have fifteen varieties of potatoes now, still got four on my list to go...andthat's alot of taters. :clap

May 20 2017 IMGP2131.jpg

May 20 - girls were safely out of the way,
but still close by us
while we worked
They need to be part of the equation too!
working dogs

May 21 2017 IMGP2104.jpg

Said to Rick I could till this area like I did last year with my small tiller
He explained the heavy fiber would burn my tiller out
so he burned around mixing it up

May 21 2017 IMGP2184.jpg

My bean fence panels and posts are out
Rick and tractor make round abouts!
Whee hee hee! :wee

So much fun improving the soils we have. We haul it in as seed, feed or bedding; it gets used, it gets composted and so the improvements go. :)

May 21 2017 IMGP2193.jpg

Rains predicted this week
So let it rest and Rick will work it over again

Meanwhile, I let the oldsters out on the ram pasture grass. It is time for clipping and it can take the mowing now that it has a good start.
:ya

x May 21 2017 IMGP2176.jpg

All perfectly peaceful, dogs and ruminants...
grazing the GREENS
Until, Rick said..."Tara---she's attacking the ewes...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :barnie

Yup, like always, always a goat...

x May 21 2017 IMGP2197.jpg

We will not stand by and allow one creature to make others miserable...so, I had mumbled as I let them all out..."You misbehave and it'll be like always..." I should have known... :(

x May 21 2017 IMGP2208.jpg

It was constant...harassing and making the ewes miserable!
It is not cute and it is not tolerable. Goat is now confined by herself (other than when with the llamas who are big enough not to have to engage this behaviour). Not a goat person...:hmm Last goat...likely never... :fl I need peaceful happy critters, not turmoil and troubles...

Feed getting--poultry bagged rations. We haul this load three times a year.

Left home at 06:45...May 19th...

Arrived at feed mill...

May 18 2017 IMGP1716.jpg

I go in to pay for feed and Rick readies the new system for putting the pallets on.

May 18 2017 IMGP1713.jpg

That's a looooong rig. :D

May 18 2017 IMGP1720.jpg

First pallet on, without a hitch.... :woot

May 18 2017 IMGP1724.jpg

Fourth pallet on, gate on...

May 18 2017 IMGP1735.jpg

Brand new hitch (ah, thars the hitch part!)...Rick adjusts it for the load...biggest loads we haul... :p

May 18 2017 IMGP1730.jpg

He raises the mud flaps on truck and trailer and we go...

May 18 2017 IMGP1738.jpg

Just short of two hours to arrive, pay, load and get gone....good deal! :wee

The auction I drug Rick to is helping ME get an education about vehicle lifts. :thumbsup

May 20 2017 IMGP1914.jpg

I do not want him on the gravel no mores...I want him standing and working on the trucks he has...standing and not hurting. Hard to do things when you have to crawl around on the ground...at our ages, crawling was a long, long, LONG time ago. LOL

Catch some of the water pumped for the
small oval water planter at the far end of New orchard

After Rick tilled on Sunday...we went to New Orchard and drained the water plant pond. Needed to see why stock tub was sitting crooked like.
