Chapter 12
"Ginger, why so sudden," Fenix asked, stunned at what she had just asked him.
"I know I know," she began, "but, it would really mean a lot to me."
Suddenly, Jazzy and Sunny started laughing and cracking jokes at Fenix and Gingernut.
"Ginger and Fenix roosting in a tree," Jazzy mocked. Sunny just crossed her eyes and made kissing noises.
"Shut up," Gingernut snapped.
"Aw, come on Ging! Can't you have a little fun," Sunny laughed.
"So really, Fenix," Gingernut continued, "do you think we can do it, or not?"
"S-sure, it's just-" he began. "Sigh. Alright. Let's go back here."
"Fenix and Ginger! Fenix and Ginger! Fenix and Ginger," Jazzy and Sunny mocked. Gingernut purposely stepped on Sunny's face.
"Hey," Sunny complained.
"You'll need a nest to lay your clutch," Fenix explained. Gingernut dug a hole, plucked the few blades of grass that were in the cave, and lie there, waiting. Soon, Sandy walked in with 2 fish with ice on them and a few apples for food.
"Hey look, a first egg," Sandy exclaimed.
"And look, she's even having CHICKS!!!!" Jazzy shouted in Sandy's face.
"Jazzy!" Gingernut scolded.
"Hey Fenix I want chicks!" Sunny demanded.
"QUIET!!!" Gingernut yelled. Everyone was silent.
"Everyone, I can't take this chaos if I want to have chicks. I'm going to go broody, and broodies don't like noise," Gingernut explained.
"Sorry," Jazzy said, calming down.
"But hey Fenix," Sunny asked, "can we have chicks too? We're going to be having our first eggs soon too!"
He sighed. "Sure. Build your nests."

2 weeks later
"There is no food left," Sandy reported. "We are going to have to resort it eating eggs."
"That isn't going to happen," Gingernut said.
"If you don't want to live that is," Jazzy replied rudely to Gingernut.
"Hey! I've been sitting on these things for 2 weeks! I'm not going to throw them away just so we can eat!"
"Yuck! Fertilized eggs for breakfast?" Sunny bickered.
"Sunny, you never act like that," Fenix remarked.
"So what? I am now," Sunny argued.
"You know why did you even come looking for me if all you were going to do was be this horrible when you found me," Jazzy yelled. They were now starting to scream at each other.
"I'm wondering why we looked for you too!!" Gingernut screamed.
"Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!" Nikki started yelling trying to get the 3 to break it up.
"SHUT UP," Sandy yelled. This quieted them down, temporarily. "It goes against every bone in my body right now not to bite you 3, and considering that we're starving, I actually don't have a problem with that!"
"I'll spur you if you do that!" Fenix threatened.
"Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!" Nikki continued to yell, even though it did nothing.
"You've always tried to ruin it for me, Jazzy!" Sunny shouted.
Sandy proceeded to biting Fenix. "So that's the route you want to go, Sandy?!?!" Fenix yelled, spurring Sandy on her head.
"You know what? I'm just going to go off into the forest by myself! Since I ruin it for everyone, let's just sever our friendship and never speak again to each other!" Jazzy concluded, taking 3 eggs with her and stomping out.
"Now get out of this cave! I don't want to ever see you near my ladies again!" Fenix shouted, kicking Sandy out. "Go find your master in the freezing -10 degree weather!"
The cold wind hit Jazzy immediately. She wanted to go back in the cave, but she wasn't apologizing. If Sunny and Gingernut wanted things to be that way, why would she hang around them?
She took residence inside a nearby tree trunk, hidden from sight. It was warm in there, with a blanket of leaves inside of it and the exit being far away. But, somehow, she was still cold. She felt alone. Had she really made a good decision, severing a friendship that they had since they were eggs?
She tucked her head under her wing, and fell into a deep, uneasy sleep.

Here it is!!!
Chapter 13
Jazzy awoke with a jolt. She had a nightmare. The vivid images of her argument with her friends came back to her.
"You always tried to ruin it for me, Jazzy!"
"How did I ever do anything? You were always such a mouse!"
"Who helped you out of your egg?"
"Remind me again why I still consider you a friend!?"
It hit her. She had just made a mistake. A HORRIBLE mistake. Why did she have to speak up about Sandy suggesting eating the eggs? She remembered what she said to Gingernut and Sunny... the more she thought about it, the more hurtful the things she had said seemed to be.
"You were never my friends!"
A surge of unworthiness rushed over her. They had argued over something that seemed petty now. There was no need to get into such a fuss. All she had to do was suggest to Sandy that she found some of the winter birds that occassionally flew overhead, but it was too late now. If she were to apologize now, Gingernut and Sunny probably wouldn't forgive her. After all, it was Jazzy who brought it up. It was Jazzy who had said most of the insults. It was Jazzy who severed their friendship, never to be healed again. She turned her eggs, hid her head under her wing, and cried herself back to sleep.

"So," Fenix began, "how are the eggs going?"
"Good," Nikki said.
"Nikki," Sunny joked, "you aren't a chicken!"
"I know," she replied, "but I'd like my own babies too!" Everyone laughed.
"You know," Fenix began, "we really should think of names for them."
"I'm naming all of mine Baby Chick Jr!" Sunny announced.
"I think I'm going to name this one Peppernut if it's a girl, and Felix if it's a boy," Gingernut declared.

1 week later
"Come on, keep coming," Gingernut encouraged. The wet chick then fell on her back after pushing out.
"Oh, it's Fenix Jr! Haha! It's Fenix Jr! I'm a father! I'M A FATHER! It's a boy, it's a boy, it'sa boy!!!" Fenix yelled excitedly around the cave. Soon after, "Nikki's" chick began to break through.

At the same time, one of Jazzy's chicks had already broken free, which turned out to be a girl, and the second one was already pipping.
"Mammy!" Jazzy's chick cheeped.
"Yes, little chick," the clucked.
"Look at the white circle! I am out!"
"Yes you are," Jazzy said. "I think I'll call you..." Jazzy began, trying to think of a name.
"You will be called Leaf," she declared.
"Leaf! LEAF! Look chick, I am Leaf," she screamed in the hatching chick's ears.
"Now now Leaf, no need to get worked up," Jazzy said.

Everyone's chicks were hatching, with spring not that far off.

Here's 14. Sorry about being short!
Chapter 14
1 week after hatch day
"Peppernut... Fenix Jr.! Don't do that to Gabby," Gingernut scolded.
"Sorry mom," Peppernut replied. Nikki laughed.
"Fenix Jr., cut that out," Sunny scolded.
"I want the worm!" Gabby argued.
"But the worm is mine!" Fenix Jr. argued.
"No its mine!" Peppernut argued.
"Quiet!" Fenix shouted. "Everyone, me and Nikki are going to look for some more food. Even though things are lightening up, there's still too much winter for her to survive," he explained, walking out of the cave with Nikki.

"Leaf, Leaf," Jazzy said, trying to get them to calm down.
"Jazmine!" she shouted. This quieted them down.
"Jazmine, Leaf, and Felix, I need you all to hop on my wing," she ordered.
"But mama," Jazmine whined.
"Just listen," Jazzy ordered.
They, too, faced the problem of no food. They now had to go out in the cold, and find some.

"Where are we going, mama," Leaf asked.
"Somewhere," Jazzy replied mysteriously.
"Where is somewhere," Jazmine asked. Jazzy did not reply.

Suddenly, Jazzy and the chicks could no longer move forward. What was going on? They looked at their feet and saw a silver floor, and on the sides wire. Sneaking through the wires was not possible. Jazzy called for help even though she knew it was useless; no one would hear her way out in a blizzard somewhere in the wilderness!
But someone did...
