Thank You all for your nice messages. I grew up on various Marine bases but ended up in Missouri for my teen years. My father was a stone country boy who taught me some things but not others. I have his old incubator and a brooder box. I need to learn about them.

Sorry I haven't posted since I joined last year. I October I got 4 Marans chicks. I didn't want hatchery, I was told their eggs weren't very dark. Today I put them in the big coop. If you would like to see a couple of video clips, check out James Lemmons on Facebook. When they start to lay, we'll try Dads old incubator.

Hey Jim!
I'm a new member here and my wife and I live in the San Diego North County area(Vista). We recently were given 4 Cochin hens by a lady in Carlsbad that couldn't keep them any more and we have fallen in love. Good seeing someone from San Diego here.

I will maybe know tomorrow if I can tell thru those dark eggs...I have Delawares, Partridge Rocks and Cuckoo Marans that are going on 4 weeks from McMurray.
