I thought I'd start a new thread for the ongoing development of the JMF American Pharaohs we recently hatched. I'll try to update with weights and egg production numbers as we go along.

Here we start:

5740698

Set 67 eggs, hatched 46 so not too bad for our first time.

Ended up culling a few with foot problems. Lost a few to developmental problems. And lost a few to stupidity ( one broken leg in the food dish, one broken neck flushing against the top of the brooder ). We're down to 39 now in two brooders, and have a few of our reds in there as well.

They'll be 14 days tomorrow. I'll see if I can get some weights.

Also, good thoughts and prayers going out to Robby. Couldn't have done this without his input and great birds.

Weigh-in time:

My wife's favorites, the rouxs

Now some of the bigger JMF AP's

I'll take the weights. Most of the birds are in the 95 - 105g range with the biggest being the 116g. Little surprised by the rouxs. I figured they would be lagging behind the AP's.

Hey this is great. keep up the weight logs. I was checking JMF's site recently and saw these same in the eggs section but not showing in the image gallery. I was wondering about them too. When I talked to JMF last year, they mentioned they were working on their own large pharaoh quail but that it wont breed true. i wonder if these were it? Will they breed true?

Here's the digs. All the babies in the upper growout pen. 9 layers in the lower two pens. It's a 2'x5' footprint. Working out the auto waterer, got two cups in the upper pen and one each in the lower two.

When the babies get a little bigger half of them will be moved to another grow out pen.

Plenty of birds in the 140-150 range but a few stars in the mix. It's been hot so I'm wondering if its not hindering their growth a bit.

Looks like we may have our breeders. Unfortunately the males are lagging a little.

While still ahead of the old tank standards my girls have fallen off the new standards set by Moby for the Tatankas. I'm still very happy with the size and look of these birds. Very chunky and when you pick them up you feel it. And we got our first eggs in the growout pen yesterday :)

Of course, I wonder how much the wx had to do with it. We had a tropical storm push through over the last few days.

The other part of this may be my fault. We're bad to let the fine dust build up in te feeder to the point that is what they're mostly left with. They do not seem to eat this as readily and it may be curbing their caloric intake. While they have plenty to live I'm not sure they'll choose to eat enought to promote rapid growth.
