Well what if I have 6 hens, none are broody and only 2 are known layers. By spring they will all be laying and that’s the time I’d want to get the chicks so how do you make it so I can press the argument for more chickens?

In this case parents always trump chicken math.
Maybe if you take on more chores. Have to stick with it and be patient.
Parents can change their minds.
Raising grown ups is hard, just don't nag them. It can turn a no into a NO.
