I started 2 years ago with 6 but now I have 18 so. If you do need anything let me know I live in suburban Baltimore and have heritage breeds and I raise them in a pastured system in my acre backyard. If you need any picture let me know also. Oh and if you need anything about youth and poultry keeping im still in high school also.

Thanks,
Henry

its gonna be pretty hard to find someone with just 3-5 chickens on here lol. i have 14 and that number is shifting up quickly. ive raised chickens all my life but started my own basicly this year. good luck with your search

I have 4 birds. 3 buff orpingtons and 1 jersey giant. These are my first birds. I have had them since April. I got them when they were about 5 or 6 weeks old. The birds live in an enclosed dog kennel with a coop inside and they free range in the back yard. Is that the kind of set up your looking for?

How do I know this isnt dangerous to do? What kind of gypsy could you be? Thats a little bit of personal information to share and it worries me. But I'd like to get the word out that pet chickens are rewarding in so many ways, even for dog people like me. Is there any way to know whether you're for real?

uh, i posted this in reply No. 10:
Hi all,

Yes, I need to clarify this a little.

The magazine is a monthly Sunday newspaper insert called Relish. It is essentially a "good food" magazine, if you haven't seen it.

The article will be positive (I keep chickens myself, 5 golden comet hens) ... and will discuss how many cities are changing laws to permit people to keep chickens in places where they perhaps weren't allowed to do so previously. It will feature several recipes which I have developed.

Specifically, I'd like to interview someone who keeps only a few birds ... and is new at it, relatively speaking. While I admire the heck out of those of you who are able to keep lots of chickens -- and perhaps other livestock too -- for the purposes of this article, I need someone who only has 3 to 5 birds.

I have written about food for nearly 30 years, and have been a staff writer at the Detroit News, the Chicago Tribune and Cooking Light magazine. Feel free to google me.

Any other questions?

Thanks very much,
Robin Mather Jenkins

lol I started with 2 and am up to 6 with #7 coming on Friday. If someone says they only have 3, interview them quickly!

Well, OK.

But I forgot how to find my messages. Could you PM me? I think if you check my BYC page, you might see my 12 year old son's photos of our home/garden/chickens. I'm sure he could post more photos if you need them. I'm so proud of the home and garden improvements since chickens came into the picture. Truly, I wish more people knew how lovely chickens are as pets. Thanks for wanting to write about it. Have a photo of your comets? I've never seen any.

My flock is maintained at 2-5 hens. No real big desire to have more. I don't think I'm of any use to the OP since I've had them for 6 years.

Oh, were you the author of the "Fashionista" article about how hip it is to keep garden chickens? With the recipe for chorizo breakfast? My mother framed that for me! She said, "see? You're hip and with-it after all! Like a regular Martha Stewart! Only never been to prison!" If that was you, THANK YOU! If it wasn't you, lets try to continue helping chickened families feel hip and with-it!

Tried to Google you but I have to reinforce bedtime for the gradeschoolers. Saw a long list of your name, so thank you. Now I'm off to chase some little boys back to bed.
