Juliet's first chick...

That is awesome. I'm so glad you have a relative who lets you do that. Honestly, I didn't know what I was missing, but now I pretty much feel very sorry for folks who were like me. I understand that not everyone would get infected with the "chicken bug", but I'd be willing to bet that a good chunk of people would have them if they could.

Exactly :) like there's really no downside to having chickens! Other than the cost in the beginning lol... But that's the great part in my arrangement I don't have to pay for anything! It's a win/win situation :) and I am definitely not a "country girl" but I'm an animal lover and it's do easy to fall for the little guys :)

LOL! I'm big time "city girl'; born and raised in Chicago and lifelong animal lover. Now I have 33 reasons (+7 duck and 4 dog reasons) to "be country" LOL.

And that number will change (hopefully

) on Tuesday as I plan to visit the nearest hatchery...about 35-45 minutes away. WooHoo!!!!

Oh, there is only one downside and that's when you lose any beloved chook to a predator or illness. But even when that happens, the "good stuff" far outweighs the bad, in my opinion.

yeah its kinda hard to be country when you live 45 minutes away from New York City lol so far i have nine chicks but hopefully i can get a couple more as long as they dont make too much noise :) which basically just means no roosters :(

Goodness! Good luck with that! I have gotten a rooster with every batch of chicks from the "PULLET" bin....4 definitely, maybe one more, not sure yet. One of the RIR's.

As far as noise...I gotta tell ya, when they start laying, some of the gals can get pretty darn vocal! Some want to let the whole world know that they are about to lay an egg, ARE laying an egg, or have just laid an egg. Some don't want anyone to know. And most of the time, when one is making an announcement about her egg, the whole gang chimes in. Quite frankly, I love it, but if you have close neighbors, they might not...LOL It's a LOT more noise than a rooster crow now and again!

some of the neighbors have chickens so i don't think they'll mind all that much... chickens are allowed but theres a limit of 10... i just wish we knew how many roosters we had so we could give them back to the lady who sold the eggs we hatched before i get too attached (probably too late already

) and get some pullets!
